I don’t think BH has impressed anyone. His national championship was flukey and he showed he can’t sustain success. The FCS is so different as far as competition level compared to his first stint also. There are basically 4 teams that are really good and outside of that it’s very mediocre. Look at teams like UIW, Mercer, Rhode Island, etc. Those are top 10 teams but anyone in the top 4 would beat them by 30+. Let’s look at BH’s teams. 19 he has an all time great QB and some studs like Toure, Akem, Knight. They get an easy sound round and then lose. 2021 he has a solid regular season especially considering the talent but then gets smoked in the quarterfinals. 2022 was the beginning of the transfer qbs. Everyone has high hopes for the team then they hit a rough patch, get smoked by the cats, sneak by in the first round and get throttled by NDSU. 2023 he has qb issues and once he switches qbs things go well. They look good until the playoffs where the wheels fall off for the offense and Bergen has to save them. Ultimately they face SDSU and get demolished. 2024 he has maybe the best individual skill players in the whole FCS but once again can’t figure out his qb issues. Once again get gifted an easy first round and get smoked in the second round. I don’t see how Bobby has made this program any better. Some years they land either an easy schedule or a stud player and they get a better regular season but outside of Junior saving them they haven’t had any playoff success, at least sustained. That's moving the goalposts, buddy. I responded to your statement that he hasn't done anything impressive. As I have shown elsewhere, he took a team that was not ranked in the top 25 back to the national championship and being a perennial top 10 team. Really, man, I'm not coming at you, I'm just genuinely telling you that you are young and blind on this.
If your point is Hauck’s success is because of the previous coaches and the significant advantages that Missoula has over any FCS school, how do you explain the previous two coaches not being able to turn it around? The two years before Bobby returned to Missoula, the Griz were 6-5 and 7-4. They didn't make the playoffs. They were not ranked in the top 25 to end the seasons. It is clear to me that the current state of Griz football is better than under previous coaches. That is just objectively true, right? It wasn't because of the previous coaches.
If you want to discuss advantages Missoula does or doesn't have, I'm happy to do that in private messages so you don't have to worry about a crowd jumping in to the conversation. I've had it a lot, but both Missoula and Bozeman just don't have the advantages you are implying.
Also, you're making assumptions if you think he hasn't been contacted about other jobs. He is at the end of his career and told everyone that unless things somehow go terrible in some way, this is his last job. His lack of moving isn't lack of offers, especially as a special teams coach, from my understanding.
I feel it’s fair to say MSU and UM were in similar places when BH has hired. In 17 the cats went 5-6 but were in the rebuild process and the gris went 7-4. Look at the significant gap now. One team in the number one seed, and while the cats haven’t established themselves as a SDSU or NDSU this season is the opportunity to climb that ladder. Then the other team is still struggling to have consistent success.
Until Bobby gets this team to consistent semi-finals, I don’t think he has turned this program around. Compared to someone like Choate or Eck, who took losing programs and got them to consistent quarter/semi final teams, BH looks silly.
