Four candidates for job

There was only One candidate. Haslem didn’t return inquires or interview anyone else. Great hire by the Washington’s.

I'm unfamiliar with this talk about Kevin and Kyle Washington. I'm curious...do they have influence over the roster?

Haslem wanted to keep Stitt. You think he was going to do anything but what the biggest booster for the the entire university said? Hell I’m glade it’s Bobby but the reality is that the moron didn’t even take the time to get to know any young up and coming coaches with Montana ties...

Let’s hope Haslem declares victory and bounces.
Yes, I have a grudge.

Sounds like bar room talk. I know for a fact he did talk to others. Salary was a big issue in one case.

Bobby was the only one they brought for an in person but I can assure you they conducted many phone interviews with other candidates.

Obviously I didn't do so well with mine.

One reason that Super Dave perhaps would never coach at UM is because UM represents a magical moment in time for him.

It would be crazy for him to potentially take on any criticism at UM going forward.

He can freeze only good memories in Missoula for eternity if he stays away from coaching at UM.

They and their dad have no influence over anything at UM. Even though they just gave $7 million for the Performance Center and many millions previously for the Education center and other things including athletics, no one at UM pays any attention to them or what they want. No one cares what UM's largest donor to date, and UM's largest potential donor in the future, thinks or wants. UM is truly independent.

Thanks, MGP and PR. I've seen and heard remarks alluding to the Washingtons having influence over decisions regarding players and staff. Good to know the truth.

My post was intended as a joke. I can't imagine that the biggest donor in UM and UM football history, and someone with huge continuing potential to donate, does not get listened to carefully at UM, if they say or suggest something. I think they have liked Hauck all along. If they weighed in 3 years ago, and I suspect they did, it doesn't look like they insisted on Hauck, or Haslam didn't go with their wishes.

A say in picking the head coach? Likely. Over other coaches, players or others, other than perhaps the AD, I doubt it.

Oh, man...we really do need to hang out soon, PR, so I can become reacquainted with your trademark sarcasm. (Mental note : PR and CDA are huge smartasses. Got it.)

Never say never, but for now it's more about the fact that he likes Calgary and has put down some solid roots playing and coaching in the CFL. His wife is Canadian. He's having great success as the Stamps coach and enjoys that his brother is a coach in the same league. No reason to abandon a great thing.

Although I agree that they could have a big influence in decision making, in this instance, they did not. I personally asked one of them what they thought of the new coach. His response? “What new coach?” No meddling in this case.
