Less than five percent of virtually every Power 5 school and a large proportion of the Group of 5 Athletic Department Funding is derived via state funding, to include activity fees, parking, etc. That is to say, and it ought to be obvious if you read the Flagship article carefully, you'll note the University President is involved with the foundation only because it is an NCAA requirement.

In the late 80s my supervising professor, a former Texas A&M player, referred to the major college football teams as semi-pro teams. It is still the case. Georgia had five defensive players drafted in the first round last year.

I assume the AD works for the university, as does the president. Same for the coaches. For legal-tax-non-profit reasons, I assume the foundation can’t run the athletic program. The university and foundation would each have their own boards.

The Athletic Foundations give excess monies to the schools. In fact, a foundation by law can't show a profit; therefore, one ought to surmise that is why the NCAA financial always report virtually every Athletic Department is losing money. Governmental Accounting is a wonderful tool, don't you agree?

I looked at the foundation IRS filing.

I concur, nice headline. One would assume you'll be rubbing elbows with members of the Magill Society. Better you than me. I escaped that ilk, returned to the Gallatin Valley and watched it go to hell and escaped to a place south of the 45th parallel duing summers and the midwest-Gulf in the winters.

Hope you have an opportunity to discuss their Athletic Foundation as it was a huge point of contention with my father-in-law. As a state government official, he did not feel the Athletic Department should be run by professional businessmen and women.
