Martin Iosefo was selected for the World Cup team today. He scored the winning try in the US v. Canada comeback victory yesterday. He is a starter for the USA 7's rugby team and has been for several years.

After growing up in Hawaii and playing football at Western, he transferred to UM to play receiver. Was never able to get on the field due to not getting the okay from a certain UM compliance officer. Played rugby in Missoula.

"But the Eagles continued to play through the difficult moments. In the 56th minute, Martin Iosefo captured a beautiful pass on the wing to dot down in the corner before the match referee called a Canadian penalty and pulled both teams back into a scrum. No try.

Where it felt like time was ticking beyond measure, Martin Iosefo became the hero.

In the 72nd minute, Iosefo took another offload on the wing, this time running with the utmost stability to leap over the try zone and make it 20-15."

Is a world class athlete. Listed at 6'1", 214 and is very fast. Still comes back to Missoula. Graduated from UM.

My rugby-playing daughter, a bunch of Dartmouth friends and I will be at the World Cup in Japan later this month. Will see the Eagle's first match (against England) in Kobe. I see that our Eagle sports travel agenT package includes breakfast with the Eagles the morning of the England match.

My daughter's Dartmouth classmate and good friend, Nate Brakeley '12, also made the squad. His family has a membership at the Yellowstone Club. He's the only member of the Eagles who has a full time job. Works in NYC.

Martin will start at wing in first match against England, in a few days in Kobe.

On train to Kyoto now. Japan is terrific. Lots of good food, cold beer and people. And trains and subways that run on time and are very clean, with good AC. Same with the stations.

Just got a “Go Griz” while wearing a Montana football tee. In Kobe at the pre-game Fan Zone.

Had a Kobe steak and abalone at a famous place last night. It was awesome. $1300 for 4 of us. Yipes. Back to Ramen.

Game time in about 3 hours. I fear the USA will get crushed.

Your fears were justified. Canada got killed as well. It's NFL vs FBS when those tier one countries play anybody else. I'd have to rack my brain but I think in the history of the RWC the only "real" upset was Japan beating South Africa last time. Hope the beef was beyond great.

The USA needs more knowledge and skill. US quality of athletes is very good. English kids start
playing rugby when they 6 or younger. The game is instinctual for them, but not for us.

The US played fairly well in first half and for kick of game. England is very good. England’s pack hurt the US. Pushed in 2 mauls from line outs in first half. England held out a number of it’s good players. The US had early injuries in the pack.

A lot of the England fans are a bit obnoxious.

The English maul was unstoppable against us. Yes, England is a traditionally strong mauling team, but we looked like we had never seen one before. I think one of the tries was a 25 meter maul. Jesus, at least just collapse it and concede the penalty.

Our big guys once again were out-scrummed the whole match. Our technique is so inferior compared to the Tier 1 nations. France and Argentina will probably do the same thing to our pack.

Felt bad for Iosefo and our other dynamic playmakers. They were absolutely starved of any type of quick, go-forward ball.

Once a Maggot, always a Maggot. I do not like that USA Eagles vi squad. Slow as womens rugby......

I got punched in the mouth a few times by the Maggots back in the day, playing for the U of M. I also remember playing Butte Crabs, Billings Bulls, and Helena Deerslayers.

Martin got his 2d start in the 9-33 loss to France. He played 72 minutes. The US hung in there for 66 minutes. France was expected to win. The Dartmouth guy, Brakeley, whose parents have a place at the Yellowstone Club, got a start too.
