BT has them clicking on all cylinders back there in the Commonwealth--it's worked out well for the Hellgate grad!

Stew Morrill has put on a few pounds as well.

Of course, I too am quite a bit heavier than I was when those guys were coaching here.

Gotta hand it to Blaine. His place in Griz (and Missoula sports) history seems tainted some but what a career right from his HS days at Hellgate, thru UM, coaching at places like Loyola, asst. at UM, head guy here, top asst. at Stanford and now a few runs to the Dance at ODU. I recall him scoring 35+ in a State HS game in 1976, plenty of great games with Griz, more a handler than scorer in college but a great FT shooter. He played on some good Monty led teams that just couldn't get over the hump and make the NCAA tourney.

Blaine's days go back to the Old Zoo days of Griz basketball, he watched Heathcote coach and Micheal Ray play when in HS then became part of the show during school. He coached one of the best teams the Griz ever put on floor with Engellant, Fasting, Delvon and while he recruited few of those he's obviously become a good recruiter on the East Coast.

We have a great coaching legacy at UM and Blaine's a big part of it. LK and Tinks have kept the ball rolling but either of those two would be proud to have a coaching career like Blaine's.

He's the only born and bred Missoula guy in the bunch.

Yes, he is now a red headed pulling guard. Used to be a pretty tough PG with brown hair. Congrats to Tayles.

Speaking of former coaches. Did I recently see that Cal was put on probation due to recruiting violations by Montgomery and/or his staff?

Yes. Two year probation for telephone calls.

And while I don't want to minimize the infraction, only the NCAA would hand out a two year probation for some calls, but allow a star QB to play in the national championship game after taking thousands from agents.

Wow, Everett, you are so-o-o right. I think we can be pretty sure that if Cal had been a Top Five team, the whole thing would have been brushed aside. I have been a little surprised at how "seriously" Ohio State has been dealt with ... star players suspended for several games and now Tressel suspended for two games. I wonder who in the NCAA national office was dissed by Ohio State at some time!?!?

Because you obviously want to convict without solid proof, I will enlighten you that the NCAA did NOT have concrete evidence on him. If they had prevented him from playing, without real evidence, can you imagine the national uproar? Last I heard, in this nation one is innocent until proven guilty.

Convict him??

Solid proof??

Innocent until proven guilty??

It wasn't a criminal trial, Growler, just so you know.
