Gotta hand it to Blaine. His place in Griz (and Missoula sports) history seems tainted some but what a career right from his HS days at Hellgate, thru UM, coaching at places like Loyola, asst. at UM, head guy here, top asst. at Stanford and now a few runs to the Dance at ODU. I recall him scoring 35+ in a State HS game in 1976, plenty of great games with Griz, more a handler than scorer in college but a great FT shooter. He played on some good Monty led teams that just couldn't get over the hump and make the NCAA tourney.
Blaine's days go back to the Old Zoo days of Griz basketball, he watched Heathcote coach and Micheal Ray play when in HS then became part of the show during school. He coached one of the best teams the Griz ever put on floor with Engellant, Fasting, Delvon and while he recruited few of those he's obviously become a good recruiter on the East Coast.
We have a great coaching legacy at UM and Blaine's a big part of it. LK and Tinks have kept the ball rolling but either of those two would be proud to have a coaching career like Blaine's.
He's the only born and bred Missoula guy in the bunch.
Yes, he is now a red headed pulling guard. Used to be a pretty tough PG with brown hair. Congrats to Tayles.
