For those that downplayed the win over UCLA

GMBand37 said:
The Pac-10 is pretty weak this year minus the Washington schools. That could be mean good and bad news for UCLA and as a result the Griz. With WSU losing again today it may look like the Pac-10 is just going to beat itself up again with loads of parity in the rankings. Lets hope not!
Actually U of A is not weak this year. They will be a force to be reckoned with in the PAC 10.

Montana has absolutely no chance for an at-large invite.
Sadly, I agree. I've loved watching the two wins over NAU and Weber, but then I come home and watch the likes of Villanova and Temple late yesterday, and I think, "OMG, there's not a Big Sky team on earth that could even be on the same floor with either of these teams!"

Even if the Griz were undefeated and the only game they lost all year was the conference championship by one point, we still wouldn't get an at-large. The Big Sky is considered one of the worst BB conferences in the country, our conference only wins one NCAA tournament game per decade. You guys wanted the Big Sky, you got the Big Sky. You guys wanted crappy refs for the big three sports, you got crappy refs for the main sports. Ya'll wanted the worst competition in the region, you. get. the. point.

If by some miracle, we end up like Gonzaga or Memphis and absolutely dominate the conference for a few years, then we *might* be able to get an at-large bid if we have multiple tourney runs and start being able to schedule several high RPI teams *and beat them* every year.

As you can see, the odds of all that happening are -extremely- small.

Being able to attract the caliber of player required for a tourney run is next to impossible for Big Sky level schools. It is MAJOR news when a player like Stucky, Lillard, or AJ comes through the conference. High-major teams have multiple players of that level on their teams every year.

We had a chance to go to a conference that gets multiple bids every single year and you all didn't want that. You wanted the Big Sky.

When you got the Big Sky you wanted, you all lost the right to bitch about basketball bids. You never get to bitch about basketball bids. We either win the BS tourney, or we go to the NIT, or CIT, or nothing. Guess what else, Big Sky lovers? When RPI bottom feeders UND and SUU join the conference next year, the Big Sky's lone tourney team is almost guaranteed to be in one of the four play-in games!

This is what you wanted, stay-put geniuses! Now people have the *nerve* to ask about auto bids?

Why are you bashing the Big Sky now?

Hell, pard, I honestly didn't know if an at-large bid to the big boy bracket was a possibility for the Grizzlies. I didn't mean to upset you by asking. Hell, after doing a bit of checking around, I thought y'all were on the same level as the West Coast Conference that has a couple teams in the tournament most years. After doing some more checking on the out of conference schedules, and reading your post, I know now that that is not the case.

What do you mean,"you people?". I was a big fan of moving up to the WAC. However, the WAC up until now, was a pretty solid turd (like Raineer), now the WAC has turned into some consistent mudd butt (like Hamms). Now we are stuck in a complete spackled blow-out (like Steel reserve) Big Sky.

As of right now, the Griz have a good recipe started. They just need to be consistent at adding the correct ingredients. They're getting there muchachos!!!!

I'm not inconsistent at all. I would NEVER expect any Big Sky team to get an at-large bid. I know exactly what the Big Sky conference is and how competitive the BSC teams are and, you know, I am okay with it. I just was making an observation, not a bashing at all. My spouse is a Kansas grad, and we have been KU fans for years and years; we often comment on how good it is that UM does not play the likes of the Jayhawks, and we have no problem at all with the difference. It's you who wants/expects the Big Skys and Montanas of the world to be something they aren't; not me.

Pac-10 is kinda getting a bad rap. UCLA lost by 12 to #7 Villanova, Lost by only 1 to #4 Kansas(shoulda won) at Kansas and beat #18 BYU by 7. And just friday lost to up and coming Washington(daily RPI is 24) by 11. Washington lost by only 5 to #2 Michigan State and only 7 to #9 Kentucky. That we beat UCLA on their court was spectacular and could prove to mean a lot if a win out but lose close conf. championship game scenario occurs, especially if UCLA is at or near the top of the Pac-10. Of course I have to laugh at how this thread has gone, making us out to be the second coming and winning the conference. Road games are going to be tough and prove just how great(or not) this team really is. Speculatin' is fun though! :D

That argument holds no water, now with Nevada, Boise, Fresno State, and Hawaii leaving and Lou Tech wanting out, the WAC will become just another Big Sky (or worse) with only thier tournament winner going to the dance. The WAC will no longer get more than 1 autobid. What happens if Utah State the only real program the WAC now has goes to the MWC? A conference with the likes of only Idaho, San Jose, N. Mex St, Denver and the Texas Schools will not get an at large. Your argument is pathetic. Even if Utah State stays, the WAC as a whole will leave much to be desired, IF it even exists in the near future.

with regards to the sweet 16 prediction....we definitely have the talent to make a run....we need to continue to develop Vaugh Autry and get Jordan Wood to consistently be a threat from 3pt land....if those two things happen and we stay healthy..... things could get very exciting come March!!

I agree completely. It would seem the only two things this team are somewhat lacking in are consistent 3-point shooting and FT shooting. Get those corrected, and there won't be any 5 or 6 seed in the country that would want to draw UM in the first round.

LOL!!

Ask UNM if they enjoyed their draw against last year's Griz team, a team that was good, but no where near as good as this year's. Montana will be a very, very tough out for any team outside, say, the top 15 or so.

Note (because I assume being a weebs grad that reading comprehension isn't a strength), I am not picking UM to win, but I can almost assure you there are plenty of coaches around the country that would like to avoid Montana. Few teams, particularly 11, 12, 13 seeds have the quality of both inside and outside play that UM does.

You're both HIGH!

If Lillard doesn't break his foot, you guys are CIT bound.

If Weber gets healthy. Which is a huge ? Right now. I think we can still take this.

Griz have a good team, don't get me wrong, but 2-0 at home and you're talking sweet 16. Really, LOL!

R E A D I N G C O M P R E H E N S I O N ! ! ! !

No one is saying UM is going to Sweet 16. We're saying it would be a great dream, and if it's going to happen, this would be as good a team as any UM team to do it.

As for us being CIT bound if lillard didn't get hurt (which was unfortunate), did you SEE the game on Friday? I'm sorry, but Lillard or no Lillard, weebs is not in UM's neighborhood right now. I'm not saying that it will be that way all year, but right now, Montana is head and shoulders above weebs with or without Lillard. And I think any objective person would agree.

And if the loss was solely due to Lillard's absence, I guess the reason weebs beat UM in football was due entirely to Selle's injury?? Just curious if that's a two-way street.

Yes it is early, but as someone who has followed GRIZ basketball every year, except Kennedy's last year. I am very excited about this year's team.

As for Weber State, it looks like they have one fan not willing to give the GRIZ credit yet. At least if the GRIZ do win the conference, the conference tournament, and make the NCAA tourney, I hope you have enough character to admit you were wrong, or at least give the GRIZ credit.

God knows I cannot stand Weber State. Despite that, I have given Rahe and their program respect in his time there. Because of Rahe, with or without Lilliard, I believe Weber State is still a contender. They have a damn good coach in Rahe. Speaking of good coaches, I am of thought Tinkle has arrived as a great coach too, in BSC standards.

As for round 1 against WSU, Lilliard or not, the GRIZ were hands the better team in that game. Just as Weber State has been hands down the better team a few too many times against the GRIZ.
