THE END OF UM DOMINANCE IN FB?

The stats/opinions you site, Lou Holtz, etc. are correct when everyone is on more or less an even playing field- facilities, fans, tradition etc.

However, unless, Wash/Griz stadium is leveled and the Griz go back to a Dornblaser-like facility, the UM will remain dominant in football. Recruits go for facilities and a winning tradition. Now, it is true, that the days of KIng Kong stomping on the mere mortals may be at least becoming more competitive. If UM suffers through a couple of 7-4 seasons the domination will, of course, wane a little bit. But, I don't see it ending unless a Dennis Washington/T. Boone Pickens level donor steps up at a BSC competitor. MSU just had Jake Jabs step up for $25 million for a new Business School. You might have reason for serious worry if Jake were a football fan. HA-ha.

MSU now has facilities that good prospects can at least consider as being in the same league as UM's, although the MSU stadium is entirely less impressive. Granted, as long as Waded Cruzado remains MSU president they will continue to complete their stadium, and, perhaps that is rival to fear. But, even completed, MSU's stadium will likely not be any better than UM's. PSU has a better venue. EWU is getting better. And, those 2 places will always bring in players because of urban proximity and the ability to take non-qualifying freshman, ie, Taiwan Jones. Cal Poly has a nice venue but academic standards (like UCDavis) that won't allow wide recruitment. SacSt is improving and maybe in 5 years will be a contender for top recruits. But as I see it, no other Big Sky school will be able to close the facilities gap any time soon.

I would argue that UM has the biggest home field advantage in all sports of any kind. Anywhere. Look at the attendance records. The plan of the stadium is such, with a mere 15 feet from sideline to stadium wall, that the home field advantage is certainly more extreme than ANY football facility in the USA. The opposition spends the first quarter marveling at how cool the environment is and the fourth trying to learn hand signals that they have never before had to use because of the incredible noise. And that will continue. Additionally, other facilities cannot try to recreate this sort of ear-splitting environment. The NCAA has now ruled that any football stadium plan must allow at least 25 feet to the closest wall before construction can begin. I know that sounds trivial and specific, but, it isn't. The unique UM facility, corresponding winning and, in turn, perpetual recruitment of top players is not going stop.

Yes, the current state of affairs is a bump in the road- well, maybe, a crater-sized pot hole. Yet, the tools needed for top level recruiting remain in place. MSU had former players involved in murder and drug felonies and a coach sent to prison for meth amphetamine sale. 6 years later this information has zero effect on prospective recruits and their parents.

Good post, thank you.

Scenario, if Phlu would have kicked Johnson, Johnson, Montana, Quin

So Pflu should have kicked Quinn off the team when he was the WR's coach? Thats what he was when Quinn played at UM. You aren't the sharpest stick on the tree, are you?

Not that I want to argue, since MooU is still a toolbag, but Quinn's last year was 2008.

You are correct, my bad. Pflu's first year at UM was 09.

Still, my original point still stands.

That isn't the point Hammertime someone as dense as yourself can even understand that, right? However, if you want to go that route then no he wasn't the coach when Quinn was there but he was the coach for all the others sooooooooooo? If you don't understand simple issues ask your wife she has to know!

Lets revisit this convo around x-mas time. Deal?
Only if you bring your wife's famous brownies and I get to sit on your lap.
That would be ex state recruit Connor Thomas's brownies :thumb:
You are correct, but guess what dumbass, we have a coach that says enough is enough and took his scholarship away before he stepped foot on campus. Your coaches look the other way and then tell people they are gonna wait for the legal process. At least, and if you have ever met Ash, at the very least he has grown man balls that allow him to make smart decisions. It's funny how griz fans forget the idea of quick actions against trouble makers. Scenario, if Phlu would have kicked Johnson, Johnson, Montana, Quin, Stuberg, Middleton, Kemp, and last but not least Wilson off the team when they got in trouble maybe you guys wouldn't be in this situation. It merrits discussion if you have a moral compass
I will tell you I have a moral compass and can attest to the fact that for most of these "allegations" my choice would be for grace and a legal process. Why? Because I am not perfect, I have made mistakes, but you know what, I am a better man because of the grace that I have been given and for the fact that I wake up every day knowing that my mistakes have been character building opportunities. These kids are 18-22 years old and are not perfect. It is a heckuva lot harder to be a role model and doing the right things than seeking pleasure and messing up. But at 18-22 who wants anything but pleasure? I know, I know, you are perfect and have never done anything harmful or pleasureful. So quick to judge! I am glad you are not in the court of law or an attorney!

LizaJane, thanks for raising two great kids! It has been a pleasure watching them grow up! I am looking forward to seeing more of Jordie this year in WAGRIZ than the past three years. It is about time I have a chance to watch some football in the fall.

Every football program has it's life expectency. Lou Holtz gives it about eight years.
I think we are coming to the end of a great Griz era. It's over boys, too much of anything goes, for it to last much longer.
Miles City

Bump in the road man, bump in the road. It might be a big bump, but it's a bump in the road. Go Griz!

Hey there bigyyme,
Just thought I'd let you know I'm not Jordie's mom! I'm sure she'd be proud to hear your comments though! He is a great kid!
