Football is destroying men’s brains according to Vice

Interesting. I don’t know on head injuries. And with rugby tackling you have to hit below the shoulders even if the runner ducks. And you have to open up your arms and wrap. No hitting with arms crossed in front of chest. A good form tackle is almost always better than a bruising-crushing tackle. Keeping the runner from moving a few feet or yard forward is almost never meaningful. And tacking without a helmet means you don’t tackle with your head.

I rung my bell in high school tackling when I hit good strong runners in their thighs. Casey Reilly of Anaconda had very strong and big thighs.
But you claimed earlier in an earlier thread that you NEVER tackled below the waist.

I am younger than hoops but I saw him play rugby when he was probably in his 40s and he was tough. No doubt about that.
I never said that Jack didn’t play rugby in his 40s or wasn’t tough. I said anyone who claims to have played as much rugby and football as he says he played definitely has neurodivergent issues.

Defensive back isn’t the same as playing offensive and defensive line. OL and DL who played that long probably have multiple concussions. Other positions are not the same story.

Nope. You have no clue what you are talking about. You are another never-played-the-gamer. And I played rugby into my 50's.

So you spent decades tackling in both football and rugby…”tackled below the waist all the time” but you never contacted any runner’s knee or sustained any blows to the head.
Another delusional and unbelievable comment, Jack.

I worked with a guy years ago who had a son that played for Eastern Washington, he then played in the NFL He has two Superbowl rings but wound up with bad brain injury amoung other crippling injuries. The guy told me his younger sons were golfers instead of football players because of it.
We have all gotten so football nuts in this country that we've become desensitized to what is actually happening to football players that play college and pro.

If it’s who I think you are referring to, his second Super Bowl was on a team that is considered one of the greatest all time.

His name was Ed Simmons. He was a starter for many years. I know for certain his father does not look at it fondly.
Yeah that’s who I thought. I know someone who was his teammate for 2 seasons. He was a kicker and punter so head injuries and related issues were minimal but he has had a bunch of issues and surgeries on his knees.

Correct. I didn't tackle at the knee level. I certainly never tackled a receiver from the side at the knee level. That's a horrible thing to do. And no, never had a concussion or any head injury from football. I tackled with my shoulders, I did some cross body block-type tackles, and I tackled with my face in the chest with my head up. Just as we were taught.

What is delusional are your comments. You never played the game. You have no idea how to tackle and how tackling is done.

And you just lied when you said I never tackled below the waist.

It's funny having a discussion with an idiot who doesn't have a clue about football, nor about tackling. I doubt that there are many people on the board who know more about tackling than I do. As I have said, that was my game, in football and rugby.

"never had a concussion or any head injury from football"

Which one is it, Jack?

You are making this entirely too easy.

How would you know? You never played anything.
I would argue OL/DL have the fewest concussions. RB's, LB's and DB's and maybe Receivers would have more with running starts and high velocity impacts. LOS contact a lot less helmet to helmet and more hand to hand to body contact.

Show us where I said the second quote. You just made that up. You are dishonest.

Here’s what said above in 2 successive posts.

So you never made any violent contact in either sport that involved your head. I should have guessed that.
Not in football after high school. Nothing close to a concussion. One in rugby when I was slung to the ground. I know how to tackle. That was my strength in both sports.“

“I rung my bell in high school tackling when I hit good strong runners in their thighs. Casey Reilly of Anaconda had very strong and big thighs.”

Learn to read. And don’t take pieces out of posts and string them together for a different meaning.

After you lost a bet to me, you said you would leave the board. Instead, you immediately created a new posting name. What a dishonest lowlife person you are.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Seventy-five former professional football players are suing the National Football League, saying the league knew as early as the 1920s of the harmful effects of concussions on players' brains but concealed the information from players, coaches, trainers and others until June 2010.

The players "did not know the long-term effects of concussions" and relied on the NFL to protect them, the suit says.
Really on players all the way back to the 1920's? Yeah okay... someone should have told the government and specifically the Veterans health Administratio9n about this.

Casey Reilly - name from the past - what a competitor. What is he doing today? Is he back in Anaconda?
