I watched a Griz game from 1996 & could not believe how big and bulky shoulder pads were back in the day. Seems you watch a pro game now and sometimes you can't even tell if they are even wearing shoulder pads. Amazing how things change over time!

The shoulder pads were much bigger back in the day, and those old school neck rolls made them look massive! I’m amazed that players these days don’t wear neck pads anymore but maybe that’s a function of being safer tacklers with the new rules. Back in the day coaches would just yell “stick your head in there!”

Some NFL defensive line players wear QB shoulder pads.

I (somehow) vividly remember my HS DL coach teaching us that because of our helmets, our head is a weapon and to use it.

Me too. I wonder if there is a correlation between adolescent head trauma and middle age eGriz board membership.
