Tad Boyle basically blamed the refs for his team's loss last night. Claiming a no-call on Figures' last shot and should-have-been-no-call on Bonner's hold call on AJ. Will Foolerton nut-up and suspend Boyle as he has other coaches for criticising officials or let it go...... 8-)

This will be interesting. Here are the quotes from Boyle:

“I'm really disappointed that a great college basketball game ended the way that it did,” Boyle said. “The guys worked too hard to have it end like this. But, that's how basketball goes.”

“Yahosh is a great defensive player, and there was a lot of pushing, shoving and flopping going on,” Boyle said. “It's disappointing. We've overcome adversity all year long, we just weren't able to do it in the last 1:23.”

He never once mentions the refs or specifically says they blew a call. The inference is obvious, of course. But he used code words like "overcome adversity," and "disappointed that a great college basketball game ended the way it did."

If I'm Fullerton, I'd be hard-pressed to do much more than a slap on the wrist and reminder of league policy. But when the guy doesn't mention officials or specific calls, it's hard to do much more.

Do you have a link to the article where he said that? I'm just curious to see what else (if anything) he had to say about the game. Did he give the Griz any credit for playing a good game or was he just whining?

At least we didn't have to listen to the UNC radio guy this week. I imagine he was whining throughout the entire game again.

The call on Bonner was definitely a foul. I'd have to watch the last shot by Figures to see if something got missed there, but I honestly don't remember seeing anything that made me think it was a foul when it happened.

The horrible call of the night (in my opinion) was the 4th foul called on Waters in the PSU vs WSU game. I still do not see how that was a charge. Waters was driving on Lillard and had his arm pinned against his own body not pushing off. Lillard was backpeddling trying to stay with him and bumping him all the way. Waters in no way pushed off, and Lillard sure didn't have position... The refs called a charge on Waters though giving him his 4th foul early in the 2nd half. Luckily he didn't pick up his 5th foul until right near the end of the game (PSU had 27 fouls and 4 players foul out). While I don't think it affected the outcome really, it still was a shitty call :P

Boyle said more than that, according to the Missoulian article today:

"UNC coach Tad Boyle had a problem with that entire sequence.

"We're up one with (1:46) to go and we're a great defensive team and we have the best defender in the league," Boyle said, after first giving credit to the Griz for playing a great game. "Unfortunately, it was determined at the free-throw line."

"Yahosh's foul late in the game: 1:23 left in the game, I like the players to determine the game. There was a lot of pushing and shoving and flopping going on. Disappointed the way it had to end like that. We had a chance at the end, Will had the ball in the lane, didn't get a foul call, but that's the way basketball goes."

Boyle talks out of both sides of his mouth. He doesn't want a foul called on Yahosh, but he wants a foul called on UM so that Figures can shoot free throws at the end.

Boyle is a whiner. Like Sean Connery said, "losers whine, winners go home and f*** the prom queen."

Yep, I was disappointed when I read those things from Boyle, a guy I respect for his coaching ability.

Maybe I'll just chalk these whiner statements to frustration after a tough loss.

Coaches who lose the game should not be interviewed for at least an hour after the game, in any sport. There needs to be some time to "decompress" after a loss. I am sure he was frustrated. They made a tremendous come-back, only to fall a little short.

I have watched a lot of basketball this year. I have decided that I have absolutely no idea what constitutes a foul, traveling, carrying (palming for us older guys), 3 seconds or moving screens anymore. Sometimes they call these things, other times they don't. Doesn't seem to be much difference, if any, between the ones they call, and the ones they don't.

Coach will probably get fined or a suspension ?

A piercing finish: Bears fall in Big Sky semis when whistles go against them

OGDEN, Utah — University of Northern Colorado coach Tad Boyle didn't mince any words.

His Bears' season had just ended with a 68-63 loss to Montana in the Big Sky Conference semifinals here at the Dee Events Center on Tuesday, and he was not happy with a pair of calls down the stretch that both went against his team.
“I'm really disappointed that a great college basketball game ended the way that it did,” Boyle said. “The guys worked too hard to have it end like this. But, that's how basketball goes.”

The two plays:

» Yahosh Bonner was called for a foul on Montana's Anthony Johnson with 1:23 left. Johnson made both free throws to put the Grizzlies ahead for good at 64-63.

» On UNC's possession, a no-call on a Will Figures shot and Montana got the defensive rebound.

“Yahosh is a great defensive player, and there was a lot of pushing, shoving and flopping going on,” Boyle said. “It's disappointing. We've overcome adversity all year long, we just weren't able to do it in the last 1:23.”
The defeat cost UNC a chance at a school-record 25th victory, but Boyle's hoping for an NIT or CBI postseason tournament bid. Montana will face host Weber State, which outlasted Portland State 69-60, for the championship at 7 tonight.
UNC (24-7) erased a 14-point deficit and took a 63-62 lead on Bonner's 3-pointer with 1:44 left before Johnson sank four free throws and freshman Will Cherry beat the shot clock with 22 seconds to play.

Exceptions for Robert M. Knight (basketball) or Dennis Green (football). :thumb:
