First Depth Chart

Why did Beaver and Jackson flip? Or am I imagining this? I get the LT vs RT analysis, especially with a righty at QB. But seems like yeti would get more use at RT since Ralston edged him out

I've never played or coached OL in my life, so take this with a grain of salt... but it's been observation that you put the better pass blocker (hopefully with a large wing-span) at LT and you put the better run blocker (road-grader) at RT. And like-wise with the guards.

After seeing Beaver's HS highlight tape, his strength is being a run blocker...

PR. I have literally stood and talked to you at practices and sat with you for one scrimmage.

Okay, so what? You obviously were not at the right practices or scrimmages. The people posting on this subject didn't get it from Taber. They were watching it. Why don't you check around and get back to us on this subject. PM some of the posters who said what they said. "Not once." Sorry, that comment is just plain not accurate.

And, do you think I don't know who you are?
We never once, in scrimmage or 11 on 11 or 7 on 7, saw Phillips or Jensen lead a drive and then get down to first and goal, only to have Hill sub in to run a goal line package. I don't believe we ever saw Hill run with the first team anywhere near the goal line but Brint can confirm that.

Seeing Hill run zone read or take off running after his first read is not the same thing. I did not leave early in the rain either.
Double down and do your belittle the poster you disagree with, that is fine. I guess that means you won't offer to get a beer after the next one.

And for the record, I mentioned someone getting their info from Taber and Riley's preview because there is literally a comment in this thread where someone referenced them suggesting there is a goal line package for Hill.

Do I think Hill would be good in s goal line package? Yep. Could they run one easily based on played already in the playbook? You bet? Based on anything shown in practices or scrimmages, open or closed, can anyone not on the staff say they have a goal line package specifically for Hill or an intention or inclination to put Hill in for goal line plays? No, nothing we saw indicated that. Of course they could, hell I kind if hope they do, but nothing we saw would indicate that is a plan.

No one is being belittled. I am trying to help you get the facts straight. You are just plain wrong. It is not a "disagreement". You are wrong on the facts. Ask anyone who was actually paying attention at the end of the last scrimmage. Maybe you didn't see it, but most everyone else did. You obviously weren't watching. That's all I am saying.
At the end of the last scrimmage after QB1 Phillips and QB2 Jensen were completely done, QB3 Hill got snaps with the reserves. He may or may not have run some read option then, but it was not with the first team offense. He ran the plays in the playbook, no indication of a plan to bring him in for goal line situations with the first team. Then at the end of the scrimmage both true freshman QBs got drives and Dick threw an awesome TD thanks to a great block pickup by Moses.

If you are talking about the end if scrimmage number two, same thing. They did nothing out of the ordinary with Hill coming in with the ones at the goal line. In his allotted reps, Hill ran the plays in the playbook. In his red zone reps, he did the same thing. Our playbook has zone read in it. Hill also looks to run if the pass isn't there. Did he have reps near the goal line? Sure. Were they with the ones? Not that I recall. Does any of that mean there is a special goal line package for Hill or that the coaches showed any intent or plan to have that in their arsenal? No. Could they, sure?

Opinions and interpretations of facts don't make them facts themselves. Nothing I have said or written is wrong. There is no fact that there is a tebow package for Hill or an intent by the coaches to do so. There is opinion and interpretation, but not based on what the first team offense ran in camp.

Again, do I think Hill could excel in that package? You bet. Did we ever see it even in closed practices or the closed scrimmage? Not once.

You obviously weren't at the scrimmages and practices.

Means nothing until you talk to him at his lake house.

It is not a matter of interpretation. It is a factual matter of what occurred at practices and scrimmages (or one). It's not a matter of a play or two here or there. I'm not talking about the goal line. I'm talking about a series of running plays by Hill, who is.a good runner and has good size. You must not have been paying close attention when it started raining, and everyone in the stadium went for cover or left, except for 2 of us sitting down front. You must have missed some of the plays. I doubt that you were watching plays as you walked up the stairs to take cover at the overhang. You certainly weren't at all practices, so you can't comment on what was done in all practices. Why do you think Taber said what he apparently said? Just speculation on his part?

If all you are saying is that you didn't see this. That's, of course, fine, but please don't try to tell me what I saw.

And for the record, this is what you said initially. You did not refer to the goal line. You did not refer to the 1's.

"I watched quite a bit of practice, I think when Taber threw out that you could see Hill in Tebow like packages that was more of an observation of his athleticism rather than an observation of anything seen in camp or said by the coaches.

Again, do I think Hill could excel in that package? You bet. Did we ever see it even in closed practices or the closed scrimmage? Not once."

I think it's likely that they are still working on best fits for some of these kids so I wouldn't put much stock in where they're listed right now. I'd bet the expectation as well, is that they know multiple spots along the line - just in case. The critical element for the o-line is playing together, understanding who's going to be where & what to do when they see the stunts, blitzes & odd formations. When that stuff is internalized, you can start to take advantage & the dola guys can start to impose their will.

Yeah I get all that and that's why I mentioned "LT vs RT analysis." But that won't apply until next year or later.
Right now, the real Questions are: if Ralston struggles or goes down, do you really think they bring in Beaver, or will they bring in Jackson? Which one of those is better, regardless of position? Which position will likely need backup this year--the first time [player] starter or the one with the most starts on the team?
To me, this portion of the depth chart is more ceremonial than realistic

Not a single starter on offense from Montana........Simis better be that good.

Ignorant post.

Agreed. I thought once you put on that jersey you were from Montana? Where you grew up or played HS football is but a footnote in the history books.

I am a Montana native and am always happy to see Montana kids succeed, especially with the Griz. But come game day, I could care less where they are from. I want the best 11 players at their position starting for the Griz regardless of what state they were born in.

No not ignorant just fact. People around the state will take notice of it. They already are. Does that mean we start a kid because he's from Montana? Course not we play to win.

Go Griz!!

How is the post "ignorant"? Isn't it a fact that no one from MT is listed no. 1 on the offensive depth chart?
Really, you can't figure out what is ignorant about "Simis better be that good" because he is starting instead of a Montana native player? Had the post ended with the first phrase it would simply have been an indisputable fact -- but it didn't.

Nope, I see no "ignorance" in saying that Simis better be good. Feel free to explain the ignorance. You may not like the comment, but it is not "ignorant".

I consider your response to be just as ignorant. The operative phrase is "that good" as if a higher standard exists for non-Montana natives. If a Montana native was starting over Simis would he have to be "that good"? My opinion, just like yours.

You obviously don't know what the word ignorant means. Oh well, half of what you say is in the same category.

This place is awfully sensitive for game week.....have a beer and chill.
