First Depth Chart

Glad to see JLM with return duties.

Why did Beaver and Jackson flip? Or am I imagining this? I get the LT vs RT analysis, especially with a righty at QB. But seems like yeti would get more use at RT since Ralston edged him out

Don't know, but perhaps Jackson is more advanced at this point than Beaver and would be better backing up the important left side. Beaver is an up and comer and expected to be a great player. Perhaps just making room for him on the right side. If Ralstom were to struggle or go down, the coaches could insert Jackson for him regardless of where he is on the depth chart.
I don't necessarily disagree with you, in fact I agree on most of it, particularly the bit about inserting Jackson regardless of depth chart. But something seems fishy to me here--not nefarious, just odd. I believe Jackson was at RT for a while, and if he is "more advanced," which I think he is, then shouldn't he be backing up a first-time player (let alone first-time starter) and not the one with the most starts of any player on the team? My guess is LT is simply his long-term position, so why not just list him there now even tho he will likely see time at RT first. In other words, I'd bet he will actually backup Ralston before Beaver comes in

Correct. Threw for 7 and ran for 1 against Idaho State.

In October 2015 Makena Simis threw for 6 touchdowns against North Dakota which tied the school record at the time, only to be outdone by Chad's 7 last year.

How about Simis lined up in the wildcat ?
I've thought of that too. On Riley Corcorans FB live deal yesterday he mentioned that they have some packages for Hill specifically because of his athleticism.

Don't be surprised to see Hill come in when we get to the redzone and short downs.

It really looks like Hill could be used like Tim Tebow was when he was a freshman and backed up Chris Leak. He has the potential because of his athleticism to cause a lot of problems for the defense, especially in the red zone. I like this idea because of that, and it gets him on the field gaining experience in the process. Should be exciting when he comes in the game. I remember when John Edwards used to come in for Drew Miller back in the day to pose a running threat and it really caused the opponent problems on defense. Should be fun!

I hope none of the other coaches find out about this... could be to our advantage.

Them just having to prepare for it or Hill designed runs will take time away from practicing against standard offense.

I will beat the drum I have been beating with some of you all fall camp. Jensen listed at #2. My observation for Hill is that it is never a great thing if the guy ahead of you on the depth chart is younger than you are. I will admit if I am wrong, but unless there are injuries to Jensen don't think Hill will start a game for the Griz in his career.

I watched quite a bit of practice, I think when Taber threw out that you could see Hill in Tebow like packages that was more of an observation of his athleticism rather than an observation of anything seen in camp or said by the coaches.

Again, do I think Hill could excel in that package? You bet. Did we ever see it even in closed practices or the closed scrimmage? Not once.

You obviously weren't at the scrimmages and practices.

But doesn't it take time away from practicing our standard offense?

Let's say the use it week one (which I doubt they will ), they will not even need to practice it for weeks, but future weeks defensive coordinators will see it on tape and need to spend some practice time preparing just in case. Trick plays, special formations can play hell on future coordinators game prep.

Fly sweep....although seldom used by play count still requires teams to prepare for it. Personally I hope more formations are used this year, it stresses defense to get in correct alignment. I know Stitt doesn't change it up formation wise like most systems, but that I think is due to his high play count desire. That being said if he can't get the rapid play going, we need more formations, or defense will already know assignments too easily.

PR. I have literally stood and talked to you at practices and sat with you for one scrimmage.

I hope Simis enjoys his start this first game. Horner will bury him in the production department! Horner will take back his position at H!

I'm thinking Horner is going to have a monster season....that second scrimmage was impressive.

Okay, so what? You obviously were not at the right practices or scrimmages. The people posting on this subject didn't get it from Taber. They were watching it. Why don't you check around and get back to us on this subject. PM some of the posters who said what they said. "Not once." Sorry, that comment is just plain not accurate.

And, do you think I don't know who you are?

What's so funny? We know you weren't at any practices or scrimmages, but what do you think of the comments on Hill?

Want to bet me $1,000 on this? $10,000? A million?

We never once, in scrimmage or 11 on 11 or 7 on 7, saw Phillips or Jensen lead a drive and then get down to first and goal, only to have Hill sub in to run a goal line package. I don't believe we ever saw Hill run with the first team anywhere near the goal line but Brint can confirm that.

Seeing Hill run zone read or take off running after his first read is not the same thing. I did not leave early in the rain either.
Double down and do your belittle the poster you disagree with, that is fine. I guess that means you won't offer to get a beer after the next one.

And for the record, I mentioned someone getting their info from Taber and Riley's preview because there is literally a comment in this thread where someone referenced them suggesting there is a goal line package for Hill.

Do I think Hill would be good in s goal line package? Yep. Could they run one easily based on played already in the playbook? You bet? Based on anything shown in practices or scrimmages, open or closed, can anyone not on the staff say they have a goal line package specifically for Hill or an intention or inclination to put Hill in for goal line plays? No, nothing we saw indicated that. Of course they could, hell I kind if hope they do, but nothing we saw would indicate that is a plan.

If I'm following you correctly you're suggesting a QB take the snap in the wildcat...brilliant!!!

No one is being belittled. I am trying to help you get the facts straight. You are just plain wrong. It is not a "disagreement". You are wrong on the facts. Ask anyone who was actually paying attention at the end of the last scrimmage. Maybe you didn't see it, but most everyone else did. You obviously weren't watching. That's all I am saying.
