Are you going to watch the playoff games?

The playoff game, yes.

We aren't having this conversation if Bobby releases the Alien invasion he caught near Area 51 and replaces it with the old Bobby.
Hahaha! I don't think Hauck has changed I think think the Grizzlies just got outplayed today. The team has some work to do and I think they'll put in the time. If you think we're embarrassed can you imagine how they feel? It happens in this world ya know.

Yeah, I can imagine how they feel to a degree, having lost plenty of games in my life, but not to this degree. I just HOPE that the younger kids buy into Hauck's plans, because attrition isn't the way to go...

Been on this ride for almost 50 years, but I can see when somebody's heart isn't in it, and he has changed. He's supposed to HATE STATE with every fiber of his being.

I grew up in Missoula, and I have never even been to MSU State, whatever town that is. Never will. Like 7-UP.
I hear ya. I grew up in Missoula as well and even had the opportunity to watch games at old Dornblaser. Now I live in Bozeman and I have to put up with a lot of grief. My opinion of Hauck is that he has matured and knows that things will come around for the GRIZ. Think of the foundation this team has to build on now, Holy crap! My family, including my dogs hate the cats too.

Yes Sir, I walked to the Dorn or biked as a kid, then to Hoagieville every week, mostly playing under the stands as a kid until I was older. I never see Cat fans in Helena, two today but not one this entire season. I can't imagine living there, I don't think I could do it.

I hope you're right about Hauck, I will LOVE to eat Crow about all my bashing comments today.

No. No it’s not. There is no size on the D Line. Chill out. Recruiting is going to make a difference in the future. Need more size and attitude on both lines. This season has gone about as expected and Griz are in the playoffs. I hate losing to the Cats, but they are ahead in the consistency of coaching and recruiting. Calm down.

Biggest mistake was no adjustments. Stack the box.

You can do that ?

For the record, the Griz played the usual 3-man front in the first half and 4-man in the second. I think that is an adjustment of some kind. “Stacking the box” is not the simple answer. The cats beat us to the outside too. Anyone who has watched the Cats lately knows they don’t throw unless they have to, or rarely to try to catch a defense off-guard. Our D line is young (Gubner is a Redshirt freshman for cryin’ out loud). Their O-line is senior laden (they have big holes to fill next year). Chill out, it’s playoff time.

Hey, I'm new to this board and an MSU fan, but I'm an MSU guy first, Montana guy second, and Big Sky Conference guy third. I've had season tickets to MSU since 1990 except for five years I lived abroad. This is easily the best effort I've ever seen out of an MSU team. A few thoughts...

MSU had an easy schedule for the 3 games prior to this one. UM had to play Weber last week, then get on a bus and play another top 10 team a week later. It isn't surprising UM came out flat.

This is a different game if Akem is healthy, especially with Troy Anderson injured. While Tyrell Thomas did an amazing job on Toure today in mostly single coverage, the Cats had no one healthy enough with the size to cover Akem. He was missed.

The Bobcat defense has quietly been astonishing since Sac State. You can make an argument they are the best defense in the FCS right now. Moreover, today Amandre Williams played the best football since he got to MSU. The pressure he provided changed the game.

All of this being said, your OC killed you today, not the defensive coordinator. Your defense was on the field for almost 40 minutes. The Cats offered you short passes and runs, but instead your OC wanted more. When this failed, it not only cost the Grizzlies possession, but also put your defense back on the field over and over again.

When I had beers with one of my Grizzly friends last Sunday, I told him that what the Bobcat lack in playmakers, they make up for it with depth. I told him that I thought MSU's only chance to win was if they could get the run game going and cycle through WR, RB, TE, D-Line, and LB. Everything UM did on offense played to MSU's strength. Because of rotations and favorable time-of-possession, individual players on the MSU D-Line were probably only on the field for 10 minutes this game. This resulted in them getting QB pressure without blitzing, giving them 7-8 players in coverage. I'm assuming Sneed isn't 100%; he was a sitting duck when pressured in that pocket. The ideal game plan against MSU, would have been full of short passes and runs with players moving laterally when receiving the ball, coupled with shuttle passes to keep the pass rush honest, and a few selectively timed big throws to the middle of the field. Instead, your OC forced the ball to the middle of the field even though that area was the most guarded. Given this, JLM should have been able to torch MSU today. Instead, he was a non-factor...

Great observations. Thank you.

It kind of got lost in the childish rant between C and HHB.

Being ready to play has nothing to do with talent-- start the game with a delay of game and then fumble the ball. Watch the start of the game to see the emotion of Choate--its the difference. If this was Stitt or Delany people would want a change.

You mean the ones that don't think a 9 win playoff season 2 years after the previous coach hit the program low point of the past 30 years?

I consider this loss as the lowest in 30 years.

Not only is it the worst loss in the history of Montana football, it is the single biggest win in the history of Montana State football. More than the National Championships they have won.

Yesterday’s loss to the Cats was not as big as last year’s loss for me. Last year, we also lost the playoffs and the game ended with the Griz and fans being stunned. This year the Griz have everything to “live” for. The next Cat-Griz challenge is who does better in the playoffs.

This.

I think it’s imperative that the Griz have a good game or two...for building momentum for next year.

Let’s see how they do.

Fire Baer = Hire Tim. Bobby himself told me this spring that he has no intention of ever leaving this job. Retire someday...yes. Get fired someday...maybe. Take another job...not happening. He also said his bro Tim would like to finish his career on the Griz staff when his time with the NFL Eagles comes to an end. So unless Bobby is fired in next couple years it is possible, likely even, that Tim Hauck is our next Defensive Coordinator. Baer is prolly our Def Coordinator until Tim wants to come home or Baer decides to retire first.

Finally, I can agree with HHB and tell "fan"ofzoo to stick it up his ass in one post. That and we got a 6 seed with no fargo involved. This is shaping up to be a pretty good day ...

I mean, if you get beat, and badly, a good takeaway is that you're "rival" blew their wad, and if their season continues, it will need to pass through the big ass dome.

Go cats, beat Albany ... or Central Delaware, or whatever ...

..might be sooner than later with Eagles..

We have a great coaching staff. Year Two, we are 9 - 3, with only 2 sub-par games and in the playoffs. This is with a young team. The future looks good.

Honestly, I’d much rather lose like we did yesterday than like we did last year. No question.

In fact, I’m STILL not over last year’s loss, and I’m already over this one.

Wow thats ok with you ? I never thought a real Griz fan would be ok with losing (big) to the kitties.
Brave new world.

Yeah getting a seed in the second year after the mess he inherited is really lame. Where were your comments after the Weber game? Grumpy because of the Bulldogs exposure?

I'm not "okay" with it, but what's done is done, and all we can do is move on and hope for better showings in the playoffs.

Good post. No Griz fan is okay with losing to the Cats, let alone getting clobbered by the Cats.

However, all Griz fans should be excited about the 9-3 season, playoff seed, and reasonable path forward in the playoffs. Especially, as you point out, no one can do a damn thing about the loss to the Cats, other than moving forward to make some noise in the playoffs.

I can't imagine that any players think all is lost, they may as well quit on the season, the coaches should be fired, and the team should just dwell on the Cat loss and point fingers.
