Final Thoughts

Well I sat back and thought about yesterdays game and also the season overall. Lets first start with yesterdays game against NDSU. I know we all have a lot of love and passion for Grizzly Football but yesterday we just got bulldozed by the 4 time defending National Champs. They might get 5 in a row but time will tell there! We all know it would have been a up hill climb to go to Fargo and come out as victors but to come out and lay an egg as we did......UGLY!

I thought the defense played well for being on the field as much as they were and stepping up to challenging the run of NDSU. Griz did give up 21 points to 2 pick sixes and a special teams td. That being said offensively we just couldn't do anything. I got to give NDSU props Defensively but The ESPN commentator even mentioned a few things about the offense that I thought was interesting:
1. Our dives had the most success when we threw on 1st down (Many 3 and outs from SDSU game and NDSU game when we tried run on 1st down)
2. Need to push deep with our two stud Wide outs- We didn't test deep until 3rd qtr.
3. Montana's offense was predictable; The ESPN commentator stated several times during the game. He knew when we would try to run before the Griz would even run the play. (That concerned me here)
4. Need more north and south runs (not delay handoffs) Also need more slants and over the middle passes. Not throwing to the sideline all the time.

This all led to the beat down the Griz received!

As for the season....Many ups and downs:

UPS: Win against NDSU (Great win to start the season); Wins against Eastern Wash, and the Kitties and first round against a solid SDSU. Lucky Win: Idaho State LOWS: CalPoly ( You punt and force them to go 40 to 60 yards with time running out to kick the winning fg rather than going for it) Weber State, and NDSU in Playoffs

Now the work starts for Stitt. He now knows the passion of Montana Football! Making the Playoffs are not good enough here. We want what NDSU has more.....National Championships!!!! We want to be back in that spotlight playing for the chipper again! Lets take a page from NDSU: Become more discipline on both sides of the ball and special teams. Cut down on the penalties (especially the 15 yarders) I don't mind not being flashy if that means we are battling for the national championship every year I will take that over flashy every day!! Just my thoughts moving forward........GO GRIZ!!

National Championships - agreed, one major difference between us and them we comply with NCAA regulations they dont.

Very accurate well thought out post, just dont dip to level and mention Fargo outfit by name, they deserve no respect.

Had a great time meeting a lot of Griz fans in Fargo yesterday afternoon. Very impressed by the turnout you guys had!

It was a great game regardless of the outcome. Honestly, the Bison played probably their best defense that I've seen all season. I was a little surprised that Montana was not going deep more often in the first half. Those receivers you have are damn good and forced a few PI. All in all it was a very fun day!

As for Griz1952, I just want to know where this hatred of all things NDSU comes from. I don't mean to start anything here, it just seems like every time we play you, you go off on how we have been "violating NCAA regulations." I am truly interested in hearing the facts behind your accusations. Once again, not trying to start anything. I'll hang up and listen.

Rebuild both lines, need some big guys on defense and some big mean offensive linemen. Chad Germer was Stitt's best hire. No need to recruit 20 wide receivers if nobody blocks. Love North Dakotas offensive line big tough kids.

BFkasper,

You seem reasonable coming from the corrupt culture you likely cheer for.

Send private message we can arrange time and place to meet.

Have sent several private requests, get irrational salacious rants.

One or two have threatened me, I responded with rational promises that have scared the urine out of them.

One of them if I decided to push it would be terminated knowing he used work computer for potential illegal activity. Lets just say threaten me and I respond not with a threat but a promise. Both can consider themselves lucky that I am a reasonable nice guy whose value as man is based on something other than some college or pro sports team; but also somebody you dont f**k with.

Come reasonably and while you may not be impressed; will see I am not the wild nut portrayed by some and I will back it up with facts.

I know 1952 is a little out there, but seriously, the game is over. NDSU moves on. So should you.

Please list these supposed NCAA violations. I will hang up and listen. :thumb:

Griz D only gave up 16 points, great job against that O and having to live on the field...just like last years game there. I really thought, after having success in the first game, that Montana would be very competitive. They may not win, but nothing like we saw yesterday. They looked like they did not belong in the same building, which is not true. Oh well, here is to the first year of Stitt Happens in the books. Now the real test comes, can Stitt build this team into what his vision really is? Starts in February.

I am more concerned about Stitt being able to adapt to this level of competition.

Let's wait and see what happens between this time and next year..

Protecting his "brand" Stitt is self motivated..

I mean, new offense, new QB, new coach, whooped EWU/MSU, co-Big Sky Champions, made the second round of the playoffs (with a revolving door at QB, and an serviceable RB amongst other growing pains)

Aaandddd Little Stitt got a longtime bobcat coach fired

during his first season...

Seriously???? Get over yourself!

I thought the Griz had the team to challenge for an FCS Championship ... that was obvious in week 1. But, it seemed that there were transitional challenges that changed the team chemistry and lead to inconsistencies on the field. Oh well, Stitt Happens.

I'll be interested in the next few years. I think that's all Stitt will get to prove his worth ... 2 more years.

Oddly enough, except for adding an extra year or two, I tend to agree ... but with a rather different twist.

Given the reported attitude of certain people in UM administration, Stitt can probably coach the Griz until he's "ready for the rocking chair," in one old parlance ... if he turns out years like this one or even not quite as good. That is, good enough to satisfy many fans, but not necessarily great. That would be fine with a bunch of people who hate for the football team to be "big men" on Campus. Now, some totally disastrous years (i.e., losing seasons) is likely to see him gone.

But it works both ways. If, in that same time frame, Stitt's teams start blowing though the opposition for an NC or two ... someone will make him "an offer he can't refuse," no matter how much he likes the lifestyle in Missoula.

Stitt deserves an opportunity to select the players that fit his system and build his team. I wish him the best and UofMontana Football the best.

That noted, if UofMontana Football wins consistently and dominates the Big Sky Conference, Stitt will leave 'cause the UofMontana won't be able to compete with 6 figure salaries offers from FBS programs or the professional leagues.

So, yes, I concur with your assessment of Stitt's future at UofMontana.
