Anybody watching West Virginia outsmart/outplay/outquick/
outcoach Oklahoma?? They are a perfect example of keeping the pedal to the metal until the game is over! Wow, what would it be like to have someone like Pat White as your QB, with a coach who knew how to use him?!?

What it would be like to see that type of speed on the offensive side of the ball for UM. Actually any speed

Yes, fire Stoops. He's lost the last two bowl games (and some before that). So what if he's the winningest coach in FBS since '99.

Good game. I thought Oklahoma would roll WV. Especially without their head coach.

Just goes to show why I am still not a talking head about college football on ESPN. Or betting college football for a living. Or coaching college football. And on, And on, And on.

Unfortunately Stoops put the pedal to the metal and drove right into the ditch. OU had all the momentum, everything going their way -- including a couple of horrible calls by the officials. OU scores a TD, but Stoops goes for 2? Why? It's early in the 3rd quarter, with a lot of game left. With the extra-point it would have been 20-16 then if WVU gets a FG, OU would still be within 7 (23-16). Going for 2 at that point smacks of desperation.

But the biggest blunder was going for the on-side kick on the ensuing kickoff. That was a huge mistake. That was basically a turnover that gave the momentum back to WVU which took the gift and scored TD.

Funny thing, OU had one of the highest scoring offenses in the country, but I bet their fans are not any happier than Griz fans about the post-season. They blew out teams all year long, but it doesn't matter they still lost in the post season.

You are not far off, WVU is the 1st of 6 bowl teams to win with an interim HC.

2304, the difference is that Stoops was trying to come from behind. WV had the lead, and kept pouring it on. I like that. I will never fault a team for playing their game, no matter what the score may be. If Team B can't stop Team A, that's Team B's problem.

Did anyone else note the offensive similarity between WVU and APP ST.? The Mt.neer QB was almost a clone of Armanti E. Except he wasn't quite as good. As long as you can recruit the speed it looks like the spread offense will be the college FB offense of the future. (and the future is now) 68 GRIZ made a great point when he noted WV never took the pedal off the metal. If they had tried to protect the lead at anytime during the game by going conservative-they probably would have lost. My question for Griz coaching is... will it take more than the next three years to"learn" that their offensive scheme and philosophy are antiquated, outmoded, ineffectual, and unable to take our team to the level of the FCS elite. If not may God have mercy on Grizzly football and fans.

No, Stoops Choked, plain and simple. OU had not run a single two point conversion all season -- so how is that playing their game? There is playing aggressive then there is just plain stupid. It could have been 20-16 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter -- still anybody's ball game. OU had a chance to put the pressure on WVU, but the failed on-side kick put Chokelahoma in a hole they couldn't dig out from the rest of the night. Stupid plain and simple.

Sure, the OU O should have performed a hell of a lot better. However, the OU D could not stop the WV run:

In nine seasons under Bob Stoops, the Oklahoma defense has traditionally been tough to run on. This year had been no different, as the Sooners ranked seventh nationally by giving up just 91.9 rush YPG. Then West Virginia came calling. The Mountaineers had 349 yards on the ground, the most rushing yards ever gained against a Stoops-led OU team.

The timing of the 2-point conversion attempts and the on-side kick were foolish, particularly in the views of all of us Thursday-morning-QB's - although it didn't matter much in the end.

OU was just outmatched. The WV players were much more hyped up during the game too.

And, OU cost me in the bowl pool! Fire Stoops!
:crybaby:

I am fairly sure that I read that when Moore was deciding to change the offense at Appalachian State he took his coaching staff to meet with Rodriguez (sp?) and crew at UWV. They pretty much adopted it in whole form from West Virginia---so good call on that.

At the time of the OU onside kick one of the announcers said that the success rate of onside kicks is about 10%. Had never heard that stated before and strikes me as a little low---but in any event, I thought at the time, and still do, that it was a poor call. It was like he was putting the game on the line, when it was way too early. OU actually looked like a different and much better team in the Third Quarter, until Stoops made those demoralizing decisions.

Maybe the first smart thing you have said......possibly ever.

I would sh*tcan Stoops, winning bowl games matters and he's getting his ass kicked. He also wouldn't have a NC if 1A had a playoff. He is very overrated.

that was almost as bad a call as... oh... i dunno... a fake punt on 4th and 18, early in the game, in your own territory, at home, in the playoffs, when your defense wasn't stopping the other team for crap?

Stoops has now lost 4 of the last 5 Bowl games. I say fire him!

I agree, he is overrated.

True...Funny thing, they talked about how Oklahoma is focused on winning National Championships first and foremost and anything less is considered a disappointment...Must be a TON of bad fans there!

Like anyone in the FBS can "really" win a National Championship.

It's a popularity contest at best.

At least those bowl losses were at a neutral site!
