Don't know if I can completely agree with "a successful season", having been swept by the Bobcats. Don't think being swept by the Bobcats ranks up there in my ranking of successful seasons. :? :?

If you want to evaluate the program's success or failure based entirely on how we do against the Cats during the regular season, then I guess you consider last season to be a real success story.

City, once again, you voice my own opinion. However, I have to tell you that Kareem J. is Not the best player on the Westchester High team...it is hard to pick one out of that group that rises above the other. They will play Taft High this weekend for the SoCAl Div1 title..one vs two...shouldb be a great one...just this guy's presence adds to the high caliber...it speaks volumes to other academic and athletic motivated kids...In every article I have seen here, his name is followed by ...Montana bound....that is a huge recruiting tool in its own right...next year looks good....I have such problems with UM fans that think 19 win season is poor, or a 15-1 football season means we should fire the coach....winners are made over time and UM is well on the way to being not only the top dog in the BSC but in the West...Tinkle is improving year after year....and doing it in style....makes me proud to be a Griz...as for losing to MSU, so what? It is all about the future and that favors UM.

well said, as always, grizla.

i know, dwayne polee is on that team, bound for usc, and there's another kid whose stock has really risen as well. kareem did pull down the mvp award at a tournament back east. in any event, keep us posted on the tournament results.

It is going to be interesting to see if Polee actually shows up at USC if, as expected, the school is hard hit by the ncaa..

No need to wait 'til next year. We're having a successful season this year.
Like me, you are a glass is half full person....19 wins is damn good, and it might not be over yet..still, I prefer the Griz play in the NIT this year. And, next year, play into the 3rd round of the ncaa...anything can happen when you have the type of teams UM has...

LA Griz. Was the glass half full or half empty last spring when the Lady Griz lost in the NCAAs to Pitt Panthers. And you stated the game had passed Robin Selvig by after his team finished 28-5 and 15-1 in conference. I believe you even brought it up again this fall. Don't try to say that this years record proves your point. No one in the NCAAs lost more talent than Selvig losing his three best players from last year and his leading rebounder and scorer this year.

that glass is empty as far as I'm concerned...The Lady Griz are a good team in the BSC...and that is fine, since it appears that is the goal of this coach. He is well respected for what he has achieved. But, the women's game seems to have moved on, leading the LG far, far behind...My reaction last year was one of absolute shock at the WAY the game with Pittsburg was lost...not the actual loss...Those girls should have won that game...they were better than the coaches....that's life...This year, I have no interest..sometimes, the torch has to pass to someone else...

What a fickle, heartless fan!!

Seriously?

Did any of the glass is half full folks go the the Griz/Cat game? Loose ball on the floor, Cat dives for it in between 3 Griz players standing around watching him...

Loses to Idaho State, Eastern Washington, Denver and swept by the Cats...Wins over such juggernauts as North Dakota, MSU Northern, Great Falls, UC Riverside and Boise State.

How can this season be labeled a glorious success??? Three quality wins: Northern Colorado there, Weber at home and an Oregon team that has lost 11 of 15...

I WANT this team to be successful but they don't show it every night. Laid the same egg vs the Cats they did vs two of the bottom teams in the BSC. Johnson said it best:

"No clue," Johnson said. "Couldn't guard anybody in the first half, moved on to the second half, same story. Couldn't score the basketball. ... We didn't bring the effort today and that was apparent and it sucks that it was on senior night in front of my family. I don't want them seeing us like this. I know that we're better than this."

Seriously???

The only thing worse than the Griz last Sat. night are "fans" like this.

Hey Jack!

I knew YOU would be the first to respond in the negative once you saw it was me posting! Yeah, I guess I'm a bad fan then...But I'm not blind and my glasses aren't always maroon. I have watched this team all season and I figure I know as much about hoops as the next guy. I stand by my remarks.

On the flip side, thanks for not disappointing me Jack! Glad you're here to monitor the opinions of the Griz faithful and keep them always positive!

one disturbing note to come out of this thread is the report that the team goes at it hard in practise the day before a game. i don't like this. i think coaches get too dedicated to their own regimens at the expense of the mental and physical well-being of the players. my approach would be to give the team some rest before a key game.

If you are a Bobcat fan, and your men's team has swept the Griz and your women's team just got its first-in-the-entire-history-of-the-program win at Dahlberg, the first thing you are going to do is head over to eGriz and bask in the reflected warmth of the fans crapping on the players and coaches. I'm not suggesting there isn't anything to criticize. I'm just saying there are flies on the walls and it might be useful to count to 10, 20 or even 30 before venting our spleen.

I sure can't defend what I saw against the cats, but there are more quality wins that what a previous poster said. That being said, I am withholding judgement until the BSC tournament has concluded. In the meantime, name a team who hasn't had some shit losses....including pfucking Gonzaga losing to a teamthe Griz swept home and away.

I just really, really hate losing to the Cats, whether it be at home, at their place, or in the BSC tournament last year.

Well, after tonight's win over NAU and Cherry having a great game, and the Griz showing a lot more life you might not have to worry about that for some time to come...the future at UM is looking damn good.....tonight, UM recruit, Kareeem J. scored 16 just 6 below the league leader in his high school's City championship game in Los Angeles....Now they move on to the State Tourney...this guy is something else again.....he and Cherry are going to make some marks at UM, that is certain......so, you can relax about MSu....

Here I am being Mr. Negative again... or Mr. Realist. I didn't see a dominant Griz team last night... I seen an inept NAU squad... good grief, the depth of the Big Sky is lacking. Holien kept calling Cherry the "stat page filler" or something akin to that... as a freshman, he reminds me of Rajon Rondo for the Celtics. He does a lot of little things real well... except shoot the ball, unless he's driving to the hoop. Maybe his shooting touch will improve with age, or our three-ball game is going to stink next year.
I read with interest the comments about Tinkle's recruiting powress... but didn't Anthony Johnson come to the UM because of his wife... not Tinkle? I'm just asking??
Kareem Jamar is not signed to play for the Griz... correct??? It seems a player of his caliber will be hunted by the major leagues... oral commitments are a dime-a-dozen. I'd think the chances of him bolting to a bigger stage would be pretty good.
At a recent political event in Bozeman which included Cat-Griz rivalries intermingled from table to table... the Cat-backers were pretty full of themselves... Us Griz-guys and gals just told them... "just remember where you stole your coach, can we have him back?!!!!" the answer... NYET!
