In December, the University of Montana initiated its own investigation after allegations of a female being gang-raped and possibly drugged by other students. The university hired Montana Supreme Court Justice Diane Barz to investigate, and she looked into nine alleged sexual assaults from September 2010 through December.

Barz wrote in her report that the university has "a problem of sexual assault on and off campus."

That report triggered a preliminary review by the Justice Department

I'm guessing any woman that has ever dumped you I would consider an intelligent woman.

On the other hand, women in general think emotionally - and men think logically. When you have a woman that thinks logically, and is smart we consider them cold calculating b**tches. When you have a man that reacts emotionally, he's called a sissy.

However in the end I know many very intelligent women. Why? Most are smart enough to not post here.

Those men lost their jobs because they lost control of the program and finally after a decade long crime spree somebody had the balls to do something about it. The only thing Engstrom did wrong is he didnt fire enough people...Foley, Maes....etc

Those men lost their jobs because they lost control of the program and finally after a decade long crime spree somebody had the balls to do something about it. The only thing Engstrom did wrong is he didnt fire enough people...Foley, Maes....etc

Not to down play the situation in Missoula, but I find it interesting that there were 80 reports of sexual assault over the past 3 years, but in Bozeman there were 80 reports in 2011.

they are investigating that as many as 80 rape cases in missoula have been MISHANDLED in the last three years. that is not how many rapes have been reported there in the last three years. quite a difference...

I think you are wrong? I think they are investigating the 80 cases of reported sexual assault period. How would they know 80 cases have been mishandled if they have not investigated yet? That is how I understood it anyways.

I think ilovethecats is right. This is what it says on CNN.com: "(CNN) -- The U.S. Justice Department has launched an investigation into allegations that up to 80 complaints of sexual assault over three years were not investigated thoroughly because of gender bias in a college town in Montana."

I don't think so. 80 is the total number investigated. The CNN article does not state there is more than 80. I believe the chief of police stated 80 is the total. Besides, the CNN article cited facebook as a source. Really?

I'm not sure how you know the inner workings of the Presidents office, but if you say so.... Then he did a good job of it didn't he? But I can't quite figure out why you would edit my post to make a point about Engstrom. Trust me though, if Engstrom shares the attitude of the former athletic personal, Mark Muir, Fred Vanbalkenburg about women, then I would hope would have to cover his ass the same way fred and Mark would locked up with a 300# queer. Just haven't seen any evidence to that point.

tokyo and others are right on the money when they say this is a nationwide epidemic. i am in no way condoning the number of 80 rapes in bozeman in '11. that is 80 too many. but these numbers are unfortunately about average. my guess is you guys probably had a couple hundred or so rapes reported in that time. bozeman too before people freak out. of that 200+, they will further investigate the handling of about 80 of them. highly doubt all 80 will be deemed to be mishandled.

This is why I edited the post to this content. I have no idea of your post about your daughter is correct, and would hope not.

But there is no evidence nor did you give any evidence to actually show Jim Oday and Robin Pflugrad support and cultivate rapists. Unless you have some hither unknown evidence to the contrary your simply trying to portray this men in a bad light to convince others of your opinions.

There is not a single reason for people like you to rejoice that Oday and pflugrad got their personal and professional lives destroyed to somehow make your daughter safer. She isnt. Rape is a community wide and nation wide issue.

This entire bullshit scandal should never have been directed at the athletic department but rather at UM itself. This inquiry itself actually shows this as the truth as well, with its focus not on UM football as the center of all evil in missoula but rather the institutions of UM, the city and county attorney as the main focus.

I may have misunderstood. 80 in one year seemed like a lot. 80 in 3 years seems like a lot to me. 1 a year is too many and totally unacceptable in my book. I would like to think that this investigation will decrease that number, but I doubt it. It is despicable and it is time for men to be men. You don't take what is not yours.

you could be right too. i have read several articles this morning and a couple tend to sound like what i'm saying while a couple tend to back up what you're saying. we both agree that 80 reported rapes is just disgusting. and i think that number was reported because it's higher than usual. but i recall a study a while back that said our cities are in the area of 50-60 reported rapes a year. and that doesn't consider that it is said that something like 45% of all rapes are never reported! :shock:

so while i was a little surprised that bozeman reached 80 in one year....i'd be even more surprised if a college town the size of missoula only had 80 in 3 years. that would be far below the national average for a city your size, and for a college town. and considering this investigation, prio investigation, and claims of drugs and gang rape...i would be really surprised if these 80 rapes are all that were reported over the last three years.

my assumption is that these 80 cases are ones in which they have reason to believe something wasn't handled correctly. i'm sure others were handled perfect and justice was done. others were handled perfect and realized there was no case. but maybe there were others in which after the original investigation there are still questions to be answered. maybe they selected 80 just to be thorough. as i said...i highly doubt that they are going to find that 80 rape complaints were botched. but after all that has happened over the months....better safe than sorry i think.

and don't worry. if i'm wrong on any of my numbers or assumptions...i bet we can find a poster who will tell me just what an idiot i am in a while.....

Keep in mind the missoulian was very clear (take that for what it's worth) about 80 cases of rape being investigated.

Last year in Bozeman there were 80 reports of sexual crimes, which would likely include rape in addition to other sexual crimes.

So I think it's very possible that Missoula has had a total 80 rape reports over the past three years. I'm sure the total number of "sexual crimes" is much higher.
