Looks like this investigation is expanding to include 80 rapes. The issue seems to be potential gender discrimination in terms of enforcement and prosecution.

What a shit show this is turning out to be. I seriously doubt the Missoula County Attorney or the Missoula Police handle sex crimes any differently than the other counties and cities in Montana. Not in eight cases and certainly not in 80 cases.

I do have to chuckle at a member of a Democratic presidential cabinet commenting about the very disturbing state of affairs in the Montana county that gave Obama more votes than any other and one of the few he actually carried. Terrible, just terrible.

I also chuckle at the absence of the words football, or Griz, anywhere in Florio's initial report, especially since one of the incidents she cites is alleged to involve Griz football. It's as if someone glued down the G and F on her keyboard so she had to write around it.

To quote former Missoula deputy county attorney Kirsten Pabst LaCroix, "when we file sex charges against someone, it's going to ruin their life. Filing charges rings a bell that cannot be unrung." I suspect the University, including Dr. Engstrom who drew national attention to this issue by firing Pflu and O'Day, and the city fathers and other figureheads who helped elevate this issue to extreme heights are now realizing the permanence of this stain. There's a saying about burying your past in the Internet Age. You can't escape it until it doesn't appear on the first two pages of citations on google, which is about as deep as most people look into anything. It's going to be awhile before UM and Missoula scrub this one away, even if everything is proven to be false.

Not even Penn State and College Station were probed by the Justice Department. Jesus Christ, Missoula.

Yeah we get it, a woman could be raped on the hood of your car by a Griz football player while you are looking out the window watching it happen. Your security cameras could capture the entire incident and record it to your hard drive and the player would be innocent and it would all be Engstroms fault.

To those of you who have been apologists for many years during the Hauck and Pflu regimes, and have followed the cancer known as Playa-rape during this era, it looks like the axe has now fallen. You stood in line to support these athletes and coaches, and now the day of reckoning has arrived! You see, it is always just a matter of time before the recruitment policies of thugs and cover-up of criminal acts via the football program catches up to any program in America. Many schools have experienced it, and now, we are getting our just due.

I hope that the fact that there is now no dispute as to whether our crisis has become a national issue, some of you meatheads will remove your heads from your derrieres and admit that the firings of our AD and head coach were necessary to clean house and start a new era (rather, RETURN to a former era). If the house-cleaning needs to go further up the ladder, then so be it! Just understand that our program has been soiled nationally, and needs an enema, which has already started happening.
 
Growler, I can assure you you were not at the presser or I would have seen you scratching your ass. THERE WAS NOT ONE SINGLE MENTION OF GRIZZLY FOOTBALL BY ANY MEMBER OF THE FEDERAL GOVT. This JOD investigation has extremely little to do with the Grizzly football team at this point and has NOTHING to do with Bobby Hauck. He also wasn't mentioned by any member of the federal govt. AND NEITHER WAS TRUMAINE JOHNSON OR ANY OTHER AFRICAN PLAYER TO HAVE PLAYED FOR THE GRIZ IN THE LAST nine years. What was mentioned, numerous times, was the Missoula Police Dept. Several members of Missoula city govt. as well as many members of Main Hall. If you're going to speak on something, at the very least you should have shown up for it so you can speak intelligently about it.

This is not a bad thing. I am hopeful for a couple things. I hope that Missoula becomes a safer place for women and that any woman assaulted feels free to file charges and any man who does assault a woman is charged to the full extent of the law. I hope that the investigation shows that for the most part, that everyone involved did the best they could to investigate and prosecute any crimes and that any deficiencies have already been addressed. I hope that it shows that the University and Community as a whole have not turned a blind eye. A big part of me actually hopes that the Feds end up with a little egg on their face for wasting taxpayer dollars on this. I know we have had some players behave badly, but I in no way feel as if there is a city wide coverup that involves the university, the police, and the prosecuters to allow up to 80 rapists off to protect a few kids that play football. It does not pass the sniff test for me.

Bring on the investigation. Anyone who did things wrong let them pay. Anyone who did not do their job, let them go. Any procedures that need fixed, fix them. Just don't make the mistake of thinking that this is just about football or the program. A few alleged allegations may have gotten someone panties in a wad and started it, but to think that they will find widespread corruption to protect the team is just laughable.

Don't get me wrong, I think there was some lack of accountability and softness in discipline that perpetuated a certain culture, but there is no city-wide corruption here people.
 
Yeah, it's never a bad thing when the U.S. Attorney General tells the national press that the allegations of botched sex crimes investigations by your university and local government are "very disturbing."
I mean, just look at all the other American communities that have been investigated for the mishandling of 80 rapes. I can't think of one off the top of my head, but I'm sure they are many that have just been forgotten because this kind of stuff is really not a bad thing.

Sure, millions of Americans woke up to news of wild and woolly Missoula where rape is harder to prove than global warming, but don't worry. Next week the Zoo is sure to be in Outdoor Magazine's ranking of 10 best places to live, or Entrepreneur's 50 best places to locate a business. I'll bet the University of Montana even moves up a couple rungs in U.S. News 2012 rankings of colleges and universities.

Hey, it's never a bad thing when the feds look up your butt. It's like a teacher checking your homework. And when she's done, you'll get your A grade just wait and see :roll:
