Its obvious that the Griz need to win out... but these games would help UM's chances

#21 Youngstown St. (5-4) LOSING #6 North Dakota St. (7-2)
Knocks Youngstown out of playoff contention with at best a 6-5 record

#12 William & Mary (7-2) BEATING Towson (6-3)
W&M is highly ranked, Towson is a spoiler... need Towson to lose

#25 Citadel (7-2) LOSING to #3 Chattanooga (7-2)
Some might think both are in, but Citadel is certainly in if they beat Chatt.

Lehigh (5-4) BEATING Colgate (5-4)
Colgate leads the Patriot League by beating Fordham, They might get in and really not deserve to.

Sacramento St. (2-7) STUNNING Northern Ariz. (6-3)
Really doubtful... But this is the Big Sky. Last week PSU, EWU and msu all lost. Those were the pre-season favorites!

#5 Richmond (7-2) BEATING Villanova (5-4)
Nova keeps hanging around, a nail in the coffin this week would be nice!

Northern Colo. (5-4) at North Dakota (5-4)
I think since UM drilled N. Dakota and did not play UNC, Griz fans should be fans of the "no-names" this weekend

BTW I hope Western Carolina enjoys the money its getting this weekend... I have never understood teams scheduling FBS teams late in the season... dumb move by the AD. Their very slim playoff hopes go down the drain!

5:00 Western Caro. (6-3) at Texas A&M (6-3)

PSU is way better in Portland. And if the Griz could get by eastern this puts NAU in a position to win the Big Sky. If you watched any of the game in Cheney NAU has come a long way.

I'll be rooting for NCU over UND. Yeah, a UND win helps UM's SOS but as far as comparative schedules, UND had an all DI schedule with a FBS win while NCU played a D2 (Western State). I think UM's possible 7-4 would look much better than NCU's possible 7-4 whereas I'm not sure how much weight the committee would give to UND's win over Wyoming.

That is a reasonable argument. No Dakota's FBS win over WYO is a big plus for them. However, if the selection committee is comparing the same won/loss record then head to head outcome will probably be more of a factor. With that in mind, if they have similar year end record compared to Montana...

No Dakota. WYO win is big, but we beat the non-named team by a bunch. Montana IN.
Portland St. WA St win is HUGE, and they beat Grizzlies by a bunch. PSU IN.
No Arizona. No FBS wins, but Grizzlies beat them by a bunch. Montana IN.
E. Washington. No FBS win, Grizzlies must beat them this week. If so... Montana IN.
No Colorado. No FBS win. No head to head. Grizzly NDSU win probably means... Montana IN.
So. Utah. Almost beat Utah St. No head to head. Though must lose last 2 to get similar record. Griz IN.

Short and sweet, we all know Montana needs to win these last two to get into the playoffs. If so, that implies another EWoo loss. Any team on a losing streak at the end of the year is apt to miss being selected. This is about the only certainty you can count on each year. That is why Montana would have an edge over So Utah who we didn't play, as they'd have to drop their remaining games. The one team we don't want to be judged against is Portland St who owned us and an impressive FBS win.

So it would be nice if 'the field' cleared itself out a bit this weekend with several bubble teams going down around the country. Regardless, our Grizzlies need to just keep winning. A 7-4 record is not a lock to get our guys in the playoffs but I am confident it would be enough. Though we could be sunk if they are left looking at PSU versus our guys for a final slot. :ugeek:

SUU’s (6-0) last two games are not easy; @ PSU and NAU at home.

EWU (5-1) could lose again, too: @ Montana and PSU at home.

6-2 could tie for the conf. championship. It’s possible to have a 5 way tie.

Then the fun begins in determining who the autobid goes to.

Welcome to the Big Sky Conference... The idea of a 13 team conference is quite simply a JOKE. Until, they fix this problem, there can never be a true champion in football.

IE Southern Utah surprised me last week by winning at msu (though I think the cats have mailed this season in)... but SUU will play a full season and not play UM or EWU. Thats CRAP! Where as by location the Griz play EWU, MSU and PSU almost every year... The big Sky schedule is almost as bad as their refs...

Griz still holding at 22. I didn't think the ISU win would help much, but NAU surprises me at 26.

Only positive to that is to be the best you gotta beat the best. If we can't compete with EWU & PSU then really, what business do we have calling for a playoff bid?

SUU not playing us or EWU does not make their schedule "weak" at all especially when comparing it to what has happened in the Conference to this point. Honestly I would have the T-Birds favored if they played EWU or sadly even us, their defense is insanely good holding MSU to 23 points is not easy. And arguably they have to play the best 2 teams in the conference to finish out the season, don't know why so many keep underestimating them.

What we need to do right now is focus on beating the Eagles and thankfully we have a good shot being at home and seeing how the Eagles have been floundering somewhat as of late. This game is going to have to ride on our defense getting stops and turnovers to slow them down and our offense clicking a lot better then it has the last few weeks.

I will be out all day an unable to keep the scores up to date... feel free to add any partials/finals FCS scores here.
