FCS STATS Poll (Sept 3) - Griz #14

I think 14 might be a bit high. One game, lot's to improve upon, young team, etc. With improvements throughout the season I could see us at 14, but right now, not so much. Still too much to prove and improve upon.

Go Griz!

Nothing wrong with this. Should win again this week, then big game on the road. A 3-0 start I thought might get to 15. Part of the surprise is the ridiculousness that was the losses throughout the FCS top 25.

Yep I won't care what the polls say until after the WIU game. If the Griz win that and are 3-0 with two wins over a MVFC team, one on the road, then we know they are fairly legit.

That's why the preseason polls are not to be taken too seriously. Still, 8 of the 15 losses in the top-25 were to FBS opponents ... and some of those losses were not that bad (others were really ugly ;) ). But all of the other losses were ranked teams losing to lower-ranked or unranked teams. To me, the big disconnects were #7 New Hampshire getting bombed at unranked Maine, 35-7, #15 Delaware losing at home to (usually) pitiful Rhode Island, and Youngstown State losing at home to Butler (out of the non-scholarship Pioneer League).

Agreed on those 3. The YSU one to me was the most crazy. 3 weeks is a good barometer to see what we really have going on.

Agreed. :thumb:

#12 in the Athlon FCS poll. Like the respect but likely a bit high this early. Gotta continue to get better especially the O-line and rushing game.

When we beat Drake and if we beat WIU, THEN I'll believe a top 15 ranking....

Agreed. The current ranking is out of respect for what Bobby did in his first rodeo, but premature at this point.

Yup. I think so as well.

Villanova is good.

Thought about starting a new thread for this, but I didn't want to make too much of it.

Just got around to watching our recording of the Villanova-Temple game. Now Temple is no powerhouse -- they "backed into" a bowl game with a 6-6 record last year. Still, they did win that game handily (28-3) against a pretty good FIU team.

But the point is, 'Nova dominated Temple. Don't be misled by the final score (19-17 Villanova). One of the Temple scores was on a blocked FG try. 'Nova had 405 total yards vs just 251 for Temple. They played ball control: tripled up the rushing, 151 yard to 46, and TOP 38:39 to 21:21 min. The 'Nova QB (Zach Bednarcsyk) went 29 of 40 for 254 yards.

The other kinda scary part: The commentator kept bringing up this or that Wildcat player (a starter) and noting that they had been "injured in the third [or whatever] game of the season" last year. I lost track of how many of Villanova's good players were out with injuries last year. If they can avoid that happening again, the rest of the CAA (and FCS) better watch out.
