Is that thing supposed to be right by the end of the season? Cuz it sure seems like a joke right now.

Commentary: Not too many surprises in the upper part of the poll. As I suspected might happen, Rhode Island did slip a spot. Things got more interesting at the mid-level and down.

I really can’t figure how much the pollsters jumped Southern Illinois. Sure, they had a nice road win, but the opponent (UT-Martin) was not ranked, and not even in the top 30. On the other hand, they did drop South Dakota after their close call against Northern Colorado … good for the pollsters. But if they were willing to do that, why not put them below North Dakota? At least they didn’t punish NoDak for their close loss to the Gtiz.

The pollsters surprised me again by pushing Incarnate Word down after they lost to sad FBS UTSA. I thought they would, but underestimated how far. Has the “bloom” gone off UIW?

I also missed my guess on Sac State. Apparently a three touchdown win over Mercyhurst isn’t enough to hold your position. Sure, the Lakers are new to D-I, but they’ve actually been somewhat competitive since they moved up. A poll result like this just encourages opponents to run up the score.

Weekly Southern Illinois Saluki Pole Watch:

Your SIU Salukis continue their meteoric rise in both poles after dismantling an incredibly solid, winless UT-Martin team 37-10. We all know SIU climbed 5 after beating vaunted Thomas More in week one and climbed again after losing to Purdue. Well, the polesters have spoken. The Salukis earned a 3-point jump to #11 in the Coaches' Pole, and a 4-point jump to #13 in the STATS Pole.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one polester commented, "If the Salukis keep playing football games, win or lose, they should be ranked negative 6 by Week 10." Go Salukis!

Just like Idaho called it. This is the correct top 5. Tarleton (Cigarette University) should be above thee Kitties i know the Kittens have had a tough schedule thus far, but following it up with San Diego and Mercyhurst kind of levels it off. At least we best our M

Perhaps the Saluki's are this year's Northern Iowa.
