Have not had a chance to "absorb" all the numbers, but the poster who thought the pollsters would be kinder to the kitties than I was in my guesses ... was right. They only dropped five spots. Guess I shouldn't be too surprised ... they also moved North Dakota into the top-25. I thought they should do that for UND, but had my doubts that they would.

Setting up for another UNI at MONTANA second round game?

I certainly hope so, because I sure could use yet another week of Farley whining about how they should be hosting, right before he climbs back onto his charter flight carrying a 42 point loss.

Totally right. I don't put any stock in these polls but they are entertaining. The truth is the Cats just aren't a top 15 team right now. I don't know if they are a top 25 team but that could just be my emotions!

I do know that I watched Dartmouth Friday, and I watched the Cats Saturday, and it's almost cringe worthy to see us ranked higher than they are.

I'll support this team no matter what but I'll say the expectations I may have had a month ago are not even in the same universe as what I expect now after these last few weeks.

Well now, these results are very interesting. I again did really well on my guesses, with only three big misses. I’m glad to say one success was to keep SDSU ahead of Kennesaw State … but you’ll also notice that Sac State did not move ahead of K-State.

However, I also proved that I sometimes don’t follow my own rules. As noted earlier, the pollsters were three spots nicer to the kitties than I expected (one of my big misses). My new mid-season rule, which I mentioned elsewhere, is: upset a top-ranked team and you can jump from non-ranked into the top-25. I didn’t have the guts to do that for North Dakota. That rule worked for Stony Brook, you’ll notice. They took down Villanova and did move in.

To make room for UND, the pollsters dropped Sam Houston State. I thought SHSU would barely hang on at the bottom, but the pollsters nudged them out. (They are the top “Other” vote-getter).

There are several team with “problematic” positions in the poll. One that stands out for me is Jacksonville State. Playing at home, they barely beat Murray State (now 4-5), 14-12, yet they moved up three spots. They are at UT-Martin next, so we’ll see how that works out for them.

Illinois State?

Do they really have enough players in Illinois to have a Northern, Southern, Western & Eastern Illinois team along with an Illinois State?

#'s 5 & 7 are posers.

You're speaking my language. :D

Anyone else notice that one of our cupcake matchups from earlier in the season is now 6-2 (5-1 against FCS) and receiving votes?

The Kennesaw State vs. Monmouth game this weekend could be a big one. The general consensus has been that KSU is over-rated. I guess we'll test that theory.

Over-ranked at least, seems to be the opinion (it is in my case). We've seen them play a couple time now, and they are a good team ... just not sure they should be in the top-10.

Right now, there is a three-way tie in the Big South: K-State, Monmouth, and Campbell. And K-State gets Monmouth next week and then Campbell on Nov 9. Kind of the "stretch run" for the conference title. So K-State will either earn their lofty ranking and the auto-bid ... or not. Campbell and Monmouth have earned some votes in the STATS poll, but not many. I cannot see the Big South getting an at-large bid.

I've been watching FCS/1-AA for decades.

I believe your statement would hold up just about every year. :ugeek:

Someone, somewhere, has pics. Only plausible explanation.

You must be right.

No. Iowa has fielded some very strong teams. None the less, a 6-6 records get them in the top 25. A 7-5 record has them top 15. An 8-4 record and they're top 10 for sure and quite likely a seed.

Isn't it Monmouth that has that real high quality quarterback? I have watched some of Kennesaw St.'s other games, and would very tempted to pick Monmouth over Kennesaw St. in that one.

Strength of schedule

Losses are in 3 OT’s to a ranked Iowa State team, a loss to the number 3 and number 1 team in the FCS. If they simply recover that fumble in the third OT against Iowa State, you are easily calling them #5 right now at 6-2.

Realistically, how many FCS teams would not have 3 losses if they played UNI’s schedule to this point? I’d probably say only JMU and SDSU.

As you look at 10-25, who would you put above them? Maybe Villanova.

I admire your support for your team and respect it as well. Don't understand it, but that's just me.

Bison fan, this year a 5 & 3 No Iowa looks pretty good and may be fairly ranked. Though MOST years they're over rated in the polls. No. Iowa is about the only team that might expect a top 15 ranking with a 4 & 4 record. Seems they're always given a very generous benefit of the doubt in the polls.

Look at their schedule every year. They routinely play either Iowa or Iowa State and then have to play NDSU and SDSU. Then they run the rest of the gauntlet in the MVFC.

Point being , they play a ridiculously hard schedule each year.

Didn’t they barely escape the buzz saw that is Idaho State? At HOME??? Real powerhouse there...
