Portland State is getting the shaft. Two wins over FBS schools and a blow out of the Cats. Granted, North Texas is a bad team, but their worst defeat of the season was to PSU.

I'm honestly surprised to see MSU is still in the top 25. With how bad their defense is, it won't be long before they're out. Same thing will happen to UM if we don't get the offense going.

UM and MSU should not even be in the top 25 at this point. We had a lucky win against NDSU and that's the only reason we are still in the top 25.

Liberty out of the top 25... that was a bad loss for us.

Weber at the time was also a bad loss, but if Weber keeps winning then it won't be quite as bad.

Maybe....maybe not. Who do you feel should be in our places and why?

With so many of the past FCS powerhouses like APP St. and Georgia Southern defecting to the FBS, the Top 25 ain't what it used to be.

The Griz aren't either.

"You need to get out more" -- meaning, watch more FCS football games. (And, BTW, I won't disagree that various moves up -- GSU, App St, etc. -- has maybe lowered the overall level of talent in the FCS.) But, the real point is (as "bewildered" noted): Who should replace the Montana teams?

The "#26" team in the latest poll is New Hampshire. A worthy enough team, but their record is also 3-3, just like UM and MSU. So let's look at the nuts and bolts. UNH lost to San Jose State (hardly an FBS powerhouse), Stony Brook (2-3, has not been ranked), W&M (okay, ranked). Their wins have been against Colgate (3-4 in the weak Patriot League), Central Connecticut (2-5, weak even for the NEC) and Elon (2-5, never been ranked). Not an overwhelmingly-good record.

The next team in getting votes was Charleston Southern. Their 5-1 record looks pretty good. But their one loss was by 44-16 to Troy State (1-5, truly a bad FBS team). Their wins have been against a D-II opponent, E Tenn State (0-6), Citadel (4-2, not bad), Monmouth (3-4), Presbyterian (1-6). Give me a break!

So -- as disappointed we all our about the Griz season so far (while enjoying the pain at MSU, most likely) -- to say they don't "deserve" to be ranked in the top-25 fails to really consider what team(s) might take their place.

EWOO ahead of NDSU, that's kind of surprising
That's what happens when you lose to an unranked team. Although EWU is 3rd from last in ypg and has given up almost 2000 yards rushing so far. The only team they're ahead of in that category is Idaho State. It's hard to believe, that a team that needs 42 ppg because they give up an avg of 40, is a top 10 team. But I guess, any given Saturday.

I find that mind-boggling myself. Works for them, but the pressure on the offense has to be enormous -- basically they have to figure they must score every time they have the ball.

Against "good" teams, yes...absolutely. If we're not scoring on offense (a lot), then Eastern fans are generally pretty concerned because our defense doesn't get a lot of stops. They do get some timely stops, as was the case vs MSU and CP, but overall it can be pretty frustrating. Especially when one considers that we would have had a legitimate shot to get back to the chipper each of the past 3 seasons had we fielded even a slightly better defense.

All that being said, our rushing D is awful this year from a statistical standpoint, but you have to consider that we've played Oregon, UNI, CP, and MSU. All very good rushing teams. Against mediocre competition, they've done ok. While our D is still pretty bad, it's probably not quite as bad as the statistics would suggest.

Eastern is giving up 20 ppg less in the last 3 games then the first 3. Our defense still blows and part of the drop is due to crappier competition, but Eastern's D will improve as the year goes on. A ton of freshman playing on D and a brand new coach/system that will get better.
