There were “only” six upsets among the ranked teams, so I expect more of a re-arrangement among the top-25 rather than any big changes.
Guess, Team (Record), [Current Rank]
James Madison (9-0) [1]
Jacksonville State (8-1) [3]
Central Arkansas (8-1) [4]
Sam Houston State (8-1) [5]
Elon (8-1) [7]
North Dakota State (8-1) [2]
South Dakota State (7-2) [10]
Wofford (8-1) [8]
North Carolina A&T (9-0) [9]
Grambling State (8-1) [13]
South Dakota (7-2) [6]
Stony Brook (7-2) [14]
Western Illinois (6-3) [15]
Weber State (7-2) [19]
Samford (6-3) [16]
Southern Utah (7-2) [17]
Illinois State (6-3) [12]
Eastern Washington (5-4)
New Hampshire (6-3) [21]
McNeese (7-2) [22]
Furman (6-3) [23]
Western Carolina (7-3) [24]
Northern Arizona (6-3) [18]
Kennesaw State (8-1) [25]
Richmond (5-4) NR
Villanova (4-5) [20]
But there are several key questions that stand out. NDSU lost by double-digits, but it was on the road and to a highly ranked team. There are those that think they will not drop as much as my formulas suggest … and, given the pollsters love for “reputation,” they could be right. Some on here will point out that I still have SDSU (the winner) one spot down from NDSU. Well, they do still have those 2 losses, and we’ve seen it many times before where the head-to-head winner does not moved ahead of the loser. I’m expecting that to happen here.
Most of the loser drops are pretty “standard,” with the exception of EWU. Yes, they lost to a ranked team. But I expect the pollsters to punish them a lot, partly because the Eags lost at home and also because the voters have shown no respect for the Big Sky … but mostly because of that 5-4 record. In fact, I would not be surprised if they dropped even further. Conversely, I may have given SUU too big a jump … again because the pollsters seem down on the BSC. For the same reason, NAU could drop another spot, although I do think they stay in the top-25.
I figure Richmond’s “upset” of 4-4 Villanova allows them to sneak into the top-25, but just barely. Unfortunately, the six teams ahead of the Griz in votes all won, so I see little hope that UM could move back into the top-25. Yes, they beat a ranked team, but just barely (at home) and with the weird Cookus stuff that will cause many to discount the win. (Hope I'm wrong, but don't think so.)
