FCS STATS Poll Guesses (Nov 17)

Not so many “upsets” this week, but with three ranked-vs-ranked matchups there had to be some changes … especially with so many games being in the top-10

Guess, Team, (Record), [Current Rank]
#1 NDSU (11-0) [1]
#2 James Madison (10-1) [2]
#3 Montana (9-2) [5]
#4 Sacramento State (8-3) [6]
#5 Illinois State (8-3) [7]
#6 SDSU (8-3) [8]
#7 Weber State (8-3) [3]
#8 Montana State (8-3) [10]
#9 Northern Iowa (7-4) [4]
#10 Florida A&M (9-1) [12]
#11 Villanova (8-3) [13]
#12 Central Arkansas (8-3) [14]
#13 SE MO State (8-3) [15]
#14 Furman (7-4) [9]
#15 Kennesaw State (9-2) [16]
#16 Monmouth (9-2) [17]
#17 Dartmouth (8-1) [11]
#18 Cent. Connecticut (10-1) [19]
#19 Towson (7-4) [20]
#20 Wofford [21]
#21 Austin Peay (8-3) [22]
#22 SE Louisiana (7-3) [23]
#23 Nicholls (7-4) [24]
#24 NC A&T (7-3) [25]
#25 Yale (8-1) NR

NR Princeton (7-2) [18]

The first key question is: Where will the Griz end up? Sadly, the answer is pretty easy. JMU won handily, so there’s no way anyone jumps over them. Period. But Northern Iowa lost decisively.

Bottom line: The Griz move up to #3. On the flip side: How far will Weber drop? Good question, and my best guess is to #7, dropping about four spots. Might be more, but I think those “garbage” point in the 4th quarter saved them just a bit.

Northern Iowa got thumped pretty handily. If it weren’t UNI (and the MVFC), I’d drop them a bit more … but taking those factors into account, I expect maybe five spots, to #9. Would not surprise me to see them come in ahead of MSU.

I may have been too harsh on Furman after it’s loss at #21 Wofford. However, the Terriers roughed up Furman pretty good, so I think a five-spot drop is reasonable.

Perhaps I was also too harsh on Dartmouth. But losing at home to pitiful Cornell (3-6) will surely hurt them … maybe even more than my guess.

Which brings us to Princeton, which also loss (badly) to an unranked opponent. Thus, I think they will drop out of the top-25. Conversely, my new late-season rule suggests that Yale, at 8-1, will replace them.

Not too much drama, really, but the new STATS poll should be interesting.

Couple of points.
First, the automatic "find and replace" did me dirt (don't ask) and removed the W-L records for all the "State" schools. I went back and fixed that on the original post as well as in your quote. You will now notice that in my guess UNI at (7-4) falls just below five 8-3 teams. The pollsters do seem to pay some attention to overall records.

Second, you will also note that I hedged my bet just a bit -- which I have bolded above. And I mean it. It would hardly shock me if the pollsters kept Northern Iowa, which lost, ahead of the kitties, who won. Strange, but entirely possible. :?
