Debated about posting this, since it was up elsewhere, then decided it deserved its own thread. Have not compared all the spots, but I'm glad to see my "guesses" formula hit the nose on where the Griz would end up. I also notice that the pollsters did drop Albany and add Harvard, like I thought. And ... thank goodness ... they did not bring back UNI  .

How in the flip did MSU get more votes than NAU?
Some pollsters are just plain dumb.

This week's poll had a couple of other strange bits. Overall, my guesses turned out pretty good: 21 on the nose or within ±1, and two off by ±2.

But one of my big misses was Coastal Carolina, who apparently pissed off the pollsters by not running up the score on Central Connecticut State. Coastal won, while four teams higher than them in the last poll (#10, #12, #13, and #15) lost … yet they dropped from #17 (tied) to #18. What’s up with that?!

On other hand, the pollsters were really kind to Western Illinois after their loss – at home – to NDSU. I had them dropping five spots, but they dropped just one. Must be nice.

As I suggested they might (Murray State is a really bad team), the pollsters hammered Eastern Illinois even more than I did – down eight spots where I had them down six.

UM right back where we started. 9-2 would be great and 8-3 looks to be probable, hard to get a one or two loss season.

Only two games between ranked teams coming up, one of those being the Griz at Cheney. but at least there are six other games where the ranked teams face opponents with winning or even records. Weber State at #17 North Dakota and #22 Stony Brook at New Hampshire look to be the toughest of those.

On the other hand, four ranked teams face opponents who have won just one game. About the only bit of intrigue for those games is that the ranked teams are on the road.

GO GRIZ! :egriz:

UNI gets ND State this weekend at home....

I bet at 4-4 with a win over #4... They fly into the top 15

So, prognosticating pollsters, what changes in the poll do you think we'll see as a result of the Griz/Eagles matchup on Saturday? If the Griz lose, how far would we drop in the polls, and how far would EWU move up? And if - and I know this is a BIG if - the Griz go into Cheney and pull off a big time upset, where would that move us and them in the polls?

At least fall to 20 maybe fall out of top 20 a loss usually falls 4-6 spots

Yep, that’s normally what happens with a loss, no matter what other teams ahead do. But – barring a major upset – an EWU win won’t help them at all. Both teams above them are playing at home so upsets seem unlikely. Still, Jacksonville State is playing another ranked team, so that might be a possibility. Then EWU could move up one.

When [Go Griz! :egriz: ] the Griz pull off the upset, the situation gets much more complicated. EWU would, as per normal, drop 4-6 spots, leaving them still in the top-10 (with a 6-2 record, so they would fit right in). How much/if the Griz would move up depends upon how the teams above them do. Another loss in the top-7 or so (besides EWU) doesn’t matter because they would not drop far enough to leave a gap for the Griz to fill.

So we would need one or more teams in the #9 - #15 range to lose. Reason: Very seldom do the pollsters “jump” a team over a team that wins its game unless (1) the higher-team win is really, really close and (2) the lower team win is a blowout … and sometimes not even then. While I think the Griz have a decent chance to win at EWU, I would never predict a blowout.

Trouble is, Villanova is idle and several of the other teams just ahead of the Griz are playing losers. One example: Cal Poly gets to play Sac State (1-7) at home. Duh! But #13 Western Illinois is at South Dakota (4-3), so that’s one possibility. Youngstown State is at home against Indiana State (4-4), so that’s at least also a possibility.
