cant wait for the summer olympics when somebody bitches that their are not enough white athletes.

If they are the best athletes -'then I will. Not a racial issue. More economics.
so, you just want poor athletes, rather the the best? I'll assume that's a typo.

The bigger issue is the fats. Fats don't have near the representation in the Olympics as they should. Just because a non-fat might be better at a given sport doesn't mean the fat shouldn't get a chance. When is the last time you saw a fat in the cross country skiing medal round? Gone are the days when John Candy could coach the Jamaican bobsled team without anyone questioning whether he could ever fit in the sled. The poors can whine all they wan but the fats are ones getting f***[*] over here. Balds too.

Once again, only the poor fat people are at a disadvantage...at least I am under the impression that you only need money to be an Olympic athlete

Hey, fat people with pointy heads would blow away the field in the skeleton.

Best post on this thread.

Maybe, until turn three. Maybe KY Jelly will get into the Olympic sponsorship game.

i recently sat next to a fat person with a pointy head for three hours on an airplane. "skeleton" was not a word that crossed my mind during that time.

what that has to do with dartmouth, i'm not sure.

Gravity and aerodynamics will not be denied.

Touche, but volume with friction can trump.

It is disheartening to watch the Olympics and see the rich white athletes dominate the winter games. In this country there should be equality and we are far from it. Herschel Walker is the only black winter Olympic athlete I can remember off the top of my head and he was far from poor to get there. Not much has changed since the slave days when your country puts blacks in the back of the bus when it comes to winter games. We should be better than this.

You've done fine, but have declined in quality over quite some time. The time has come to ride off quietly.

You can post all the poppycock you want too, but a youngster like you is no match for a seasoned veteran like me. Your drivel wanes on some but I just ignore it.

Surely you can't be such a simpleton? Well, maybe you are.

As opposed to 85% of U of M students. Allowing "professional athletes" and sponsorships has leveled the playing field some and in some events. BUT that isn't what anybody said.

Keep pointing out those typos. Is that the best comment you are capable of making? I wonder if any Ivy grad has ever become a PT.

Lulz. You can't even quote the right person.

And I doubt any Ivy grad has ever become a PT, because it wouldn't make sense to go there to get that degree. Of course I'm assuming you meant that as a slight, which is funny because if you did, you're dissing on the academics of the school that you root for.

You really are a bright individual, aren't you?

Actually, I'm dissing you, not UM. And I support and cheer for the UM athletic teams, not the academics. Doesn't surprise me that a PT like you couldn't understand or see either of those things.

Looks like UM PT school isn't even in the top 50 of PT schools in the Newsweek rankings.

This site appears to rank the UM PT school at no. 97.

Just start calling yourself "Kessman"...or better yet a Cali democrat. "We'll have to pass the bill so we can see what's in it". You have to work your ass off to get to the Olys...and there is the answer to your question or comment. Kessman... :egriz:

I am a huge Griz fan, hate UM academics, and I graduated from the school..I think a lot of people increasingly feel the same. The school is on a downward spiral academically thanks to the ass clowns running it!

Only 4 U.S. men's alpine skiers have more than 1 Olympic medal. Only Miller has more than 2.

"Now he's [Weibrecht] the fourth American man to have multiple Olympic medals in alpine racing, along with Miller, Phil Mahre and Tommy Moe. Mahre and Moe claimed two each." Denver Post.

 I was just in the opinon that; it should not matter one's color of skin or economic standing that should be the judge of who is the best at any certain sport. I would hope you agree.

I have not seen or heard of one person denied the opportunity to play any sport. (unless he/she is disabled in some way)

Most athletes excel at the sport they are surrounded with, its not racist. Blacks excel at summer sports, whites at winter sports. Most places that have the most winter sports (as in the olympics) are predominantly white. So, your going to end up with more white athletes at the winter games.

What would your suggestion be to have more minorities in the winter games? Would they want to be anyway? I also know and heard of a lot of damn poor white people that cant afford to buy the winter sport equipment too. Go to North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc. and see how many "rich" hockey kids there are. A lot of poor kids just choose to spend what money they have on what they need to play that sport.

I grew up in Libby in a mine family and I skied every winter. Trust me, we did not have a lot of money. I used hand-me-down equipment that was in poor shape, but managed to get pretty good at skiing. (not world class or anything)

However, if you want to go dragging more economically challenged people into the winter olympics, go ahead. Just don't bash the people that bust their ass to get to the olympics, because you assume they were raised with money and thats the only reason they are in it.

I agree, the winter sports at the Olympics have been fine-tuned to coddle the privileged white rich kids who spend their winters in chateaus on the slopes or jetting to hockey games every weekend. It's as much of a division of upper and lower class and race as you can get.

It won't change until we start pushing sponsors to recognize sports that cater to all the people, the people representing the rubes, not just the snotnoses who eat bagels instead of toast.

Sports like....

Recliner Slalom. Hook a recliner behind a pickup and pull it down a frozen river, dodging the occasional tree and hugging the corners. No scores kept to eliminate cheating, everyone who can walk after Round 1 moves on to Round 2 and the pickup speeds up 5 MPH, continuing until only 1 is left standing. A sport for any shape or color.

Snob Avalanche. Strategically start an avalanche to pound the rich snots hanging around the Olympic Village hoping to tell someone how cool they are. Bonus points if the whiny-ass Canadian hockey team or any male Russian ice-dancer are involved in the carnage. Don't tell me someone named Jethro or Efram wouldn't win this gold.

Whatever this is. I'm for it. Rich girls or poor.

Polar Bear Cross Country. Oh you can cross-country ski fast on a groomed ice path? That's cute. No trails, start at Point A and get a map to Point B. Polar bears released 1 hour before race in various spots on the trail. Various recreational vehicles hidden along the way, with minor mechanical problems that some preppy jackass who takes his car to Jiffy Lube won't be able to figure out. Bonus points for dressing like a seal during the race.

Ice Fishing. You need one pole and a spud bar. It doesn't get more equal than that.

Adding more winter sports like these for the common man would go a long ways in bringing the Winter Olympics back to being an event for the people.

Ok. You make some valid points. I am not bashing poor whites, blacks, Asians, etc. Just don't believe the best athletes are competing in many cases due to economics. I read Russia is spending some ridiculous amount (in the billions) on the Olympics and it raises a huge issue for me. Money. Player Rep started a decent thread and it highlighted Ivy League athletes. That is the problem for me. Most - definitely not all Ivy League attendees are middle class or upper class. Many participating in the Olympics are privelaged or have opportunities that most don't. Does that mean they don't work their ass off. No, but would there be an underprivileged person who would perform better given they have the chance to complete their 10,000 hours of training? We will never know and that is why it I just can't get excited about the Winter Olympics. Call me an idealist- I am ok with that. Possibly I am jaded, but I am a minority and can't help that my skin is copper. I'm also on my fourth pigs ass porter. Take my post for what it is worth. A lot of hops and barley.
