so, you just want poor athletes, rather the the best? I'll assume that's a typo.

Surely you can't be such a simpleton? Well, maybe you are.
 I was just in the opinon that; it should not matter one's color of skin or economic standing that should be the judge of who is the best at any certain sport. I would hope you agree.

I have not seen or heard of one person denied the opportunity to play any sport. (unless he/she is disabled in some way)

Most athletes excel at the sport they are surrounded with, its not racist. Blacks excel at summer sports, whites at winter sports. Most places that have the most winter sports (as in the olympics) are predominantly white. So, your going to end up with more white athletes at the winter games.

What would your suggestion be to have more minorities in the winter games? Would they want to be anyway? I also know and heard of a lot of damn poor white people that cant afford to buy the winter sport equipment too. Go to North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc. and see how many "rich" hockey kids there are. A lot of poor kids just choose to spend what money they have on what they need to play that sport.

I grew up in Libby in a mine family and I skied every winter. Trust me, we did not have a lot of money. I used hand-me-down equipment that was in poor shape, but managed to get pretty good at skiing. (not world class or anything)
W
However, if you want to go dragging more economically challenged people into the winter olympics, go ahead. Just don't bash the people that bust their ass to get to the olympics, because you assume they were raised with money and thats the only reason they are in it.

Ok. You make some valid points. I am not bashing poor whites, blacks, Asians, etc. Just don't believe the best athletes are competing in many cases due to economics. I read Russia is spending some ridiculous amount (in the billions) on the Olympics and it raises a huge issue for me. Money. Player Rep started a decent thread and it highlighted Ivy League athletes. That is the problem for me. Most - definitely not all Ivy League attendees are middle class or upper class. Many participating in the Olympics are privelaged or have opportunities that most don't. Does that mean they don't work their ass off. No, but would there be an underprivileged person who would perform better given they have the chance to complete their 10,000 hours of training? We will never know and that is why it I just can't get excited about the Winter Olympics. Call me an idealist- I am ok with that. Possibly I am jaded, but I am a minority and can't help that my skin is copper. I'm also on my fourth pigs ass porter. Take my post for what it is worth. A lot of hops and barley.
Good post. Thank you for reminding me of the Ivy league thing, I forgot all about that in my rant. Your right that a lot of the athletes are privileged and I would have to assume that others given the same opportunity would be at the Olympics also. I actually would like to see term limits on athletes in the Olympics. Once you win gold, your done. I guess I get tired of seeing the same athletes for 4 Olympics.

Pigs ass porter...had to look that up and damn it, can't get that in colorado, so I'll have to pick some up next time through Montana. It looked damn good.

It is disheartening to watch the Olympics and see the rich white athletes dominate the winter games. In this country there should be equality and we are far from it. Herschel Walker is the only black winter Olympic athlete I can remember off the top of my head and he was far from poor to get there. Not much has changed since the slave days when your country puts blacks in the back of the bus when it comes to winter games. We should be better than this.

So by this logic the NBA is racist also because it is 76.3% black? Or baseball which is quickly becoming latino in majority?

And FYI....you need to get out more.....

Who cares if there are enough black athletes?

I know I dont and I even LIKE the fact there are less of them on Team USA simply because of the constant media bitch sessions about how unfair they get treated and how they hate this country. Its so one sided and constant it ALMOST makes me wish the gays had more TV time.

Almost

As opposed to 85% of U of M students. Allowing "professional athletes" and sponsorships has leveled the playing field some and in some events. BUT that isn't what anybody said.

Keep pointing out those typos. Is that the best comment you are capable of making? I wonder if any Ivy grad has ever become a PT.

Lulz. You can't even quote the right person.

And I doubt any Ivy grad has ever become a PT, because it wouldn't make sense to go there to get that degree. Of course I'm assuming you meant that as a slight, which is funny because if you did, you're dissing on the academics of the school that you root for.

You really are a bright individual, aren't you?

Actually, I'm dissing you, not UM. And I support and cheer for the UM athletic teams, not the academics. Doesn't surprise me that a PT like you couldn't understand or see either of those things.

Looks like UM PT school isn't even in the top 50 of PT schools in the Newsweek rankings.

This site appears to rank the UM PT school at no. 97.

I am a PT graduate from the University of Montana. My parents were putting 4 kids in through college in an 8 year span. My dad was a teacher and my mom was a nurse. Mom took extra shifts and dad did payroll and tax prep work on the side to help get us all through. Even with their extra work, I still had significant debt to pay back after I graduated. That PT degree allowed me to find a great job in my home state that allowed me to use my education to improve the quality of people's lives. PT school in any other state was not an option for me due to cost. It is a very good school with a nearly perfect record of graduates passing the national licensure exam on the first try.

A PT like me can see a lot of things. I see you embody every stereotype of the ivy league. You are a condescending, self important snob that looks down on anyone who has the gall to graduate from a state sponsored school.

Well, great on your first paragraph. My family is now 6th generation Montana on one side and more on the other side. In my early years, our ranch, where I was raised, didn't haven't have electricity or running water. My dad died early. My mom raised 5 kids. Many in our family subsequently worked/earned our way into Ivy schools. We are proud of our education.

My view is that the 2 admitted PT's posting on the board have an inflated view of their smarts and knowledge. They resist information about UM athletics and other matters provided by people who have better knowledge, and pick at people who have good information about UM athletics. In your case, you post incorrect information at times. You seem to have a hard-on for good schools, like the Ivy league. You apparently can't accept the objective rankings of your PT school. You react by attacking the provider of the information. Very defensive, and perhaps signs of an inferiority complex? Were most of the grads female when you were there, like they are now. Weren't there only about 3 or so males graduates last year. Maybe that explains some of your defensiveness.

One more thing. Feel free to point out anything I've said that puts down UM education. Don't think I have. My dad, aunt, 2 of my kids, cousins, and lots of wife's family went to UM. There aren't many posters who support UM athletics more than I do, especially on the board. Surprised you can't see and accept this.

I don't know why you even waste your time with these rubes PR, although I'm glad you do. I take immense pleasure in watching you beat them down intellectually time after time after time. Just know that there are many on this board that appreciate your knowledge and information. You're the best poster here, and second place is a loooong way back. Keep up the great work. Vox clamantis in deserto!

PR,
You are welcome to your view. I guess that is what makes us different. I don't know if it your ivy league education or just you. I welcome your opinion and information. I don't always agree with it. I can disagree with you and not call you an idiot or stupid or make fun of your profession or the law school you graduated from. I don't have an inferiority complex. Quite the opposite. I am blessed to be who I am and have the education I have. I feel like I received an excellent education regardless of what some publication ranks my school. I have in the field for many years and worked with many PTs from many schools and my education has always matched up to theirs. You felt it necessary to condemn PTgrizzly's education (and mine for that matter) because he disagrees with you. I feel like you are the insecure one who always has to be right. There is a fine line between pride and confidence. I post opinions that may differ from you. I welcome disagreements to my opinion. Do you? I appears to me that anyone who disagrees with you is in line for either being called an idiot or someplace in their background will be attacked by you.

My graduating class was a mix of about 50/50 men and women and traditional and non-traditional students. We had students who did their undergrad work at Missoula, Bozeman, Butte, and elsewhere. They were and continue to be very good friends of mine. My time in Missoula continue to be some of my fondest memories. I am a huge griz fan who may see things differently from others. It doesn't mean I have an inferiority complex. It doesn't mean I am an idiot. It means I see things differently than you do. I have no problem with people with an ivy league education. I applaud the work and smarts it takes to acquire one. I am aware of the "stereotype" and you do nothing to break that stereotype. I find it sad that you actually reinforce it.

grizatwork: sad that playerrep's lack of social skills forced you to resort to making that post. it isn't surprising though, because we're dealing with someone that doesn't know what guilty and not guilty mean.
