The Griz were not the only team playing a cupcake this weekend, so we were a bit thin on dramatic upsets to stir the pot for the next poll. I almost decided to skip my guesses for this week, but I thought: Why mess with tradition?
Guess, Team (Record), [Current Rank]
North Dakota State (5-0) [1]
SHSU (5-0) [2]
Jacksonville State (4-1) [3]
EWU (5-1) [4]
Chattanooga (6-0) [5]
Richmond (5-1) [6]
James Madison (5-1) [7]
Charleston Southern (3-2) [8]
Citadel (5-0) [9]
Montana (4-1) [10]
SDSU (3-2) [12]
Western Illinois (4-1)
Villanova (5-1) [14]
YSU (4-1) [15]
Coastal Carolina (3-2) [17]
North Car. A&T (4-1) [18]
Eastern Illinois (4-2) [19]
Cal Poly (3-2) [21]
Albany (4-1) [16]
Harvard (4-0) [22]
North Dakota (4-2) [24]
Central Arkansas (4-1) [25]
Northern Iowa (2-3) [11]
Samford (4-1) [NR]
Grambling State (4-1) [NR]
NR McNeese (3-3) [20]
NR Illinois State (2-4) [23]
But really, I mostly decided there were a couple of intriguing possibilities that might make it worth doing. First, there’s the question about McNeese. They lost on the road to a not-very-good SE Louisiana team … but on a last-second strike. So maybe the pollsters will cut them a little more slack and keep them in the top-25. No intrigue about Illinois State, BTW, they’ll surely drop out.
But the second point of interest is what might happen to Northern Iowa. They lost on the road by only a FG -- but I’m still guessing they’ll drop a dozen spots. Thing is, that losing record sticks out like the proverbial sore thumb. So it would not surprise me a lot if they dropped all the way out of the top-25. If that happens, my candidate to take their place would be New Hampshire (4-2), which squeaked out a win at Elon.
