People love throwing around Strength of Schedule numbers with lots of weird outliers thrown in, so I decided to take a look at the SOS for FCS teams against only other FCS teams.
Two views for you:
First (left) is the ranking of FCS-only SOS for teams so far this season based on average SRS rating of opponent, meaning only including the teams that have been played.
Second (right) is the same, but projected out to the end of the season.
You'll obviously notice a few things. FBS teams are not included (by design), so some teams like Tarleton get really punished. On the other hand, non-D1 teams are also not included (because there is no SRS rating for non-D1 teams), so teams like Idaho State, who played by far the easiest team of anyone this season in Lincoln, is not penalized.
Even with the flaws, I figured it would be interesting for people to see how it's shaken up so far this season. The script to make it is already done, so I can update it going forward pretty easily if people enjoy seeing it.
