FCS on ESPN: GSU at ODU

I wouldn't be surprised if they answer back right here.
Oops, maybe not.

That was hell of an INT -- the GaSo guy picked the receiver's pocket. Barring a turnover back, GSU might be able to run out the clock from here.

Has GS even passed once in this game?
Should have been watching early. They even tried a weird double-reverse halfback pass. (Didn't count, I suppose, since they got a pass interference call on ODU. ;) )

If the WR had been more aggressive in going to the ball, that is not a interception. Congrats GSU!!

Yep. The GSU guy just wanted it more when it counted.

ODU should have an interesting transition year, with money games at North Carolina, Maryland, and East Carolina, and then a bunch of FCS games. (They're still trying to fill one spot.)

I see that Heinicke is a soph, so at least they will still have a quality QB as they move up.

The quarterback play at Old Dominion is incredible. The design of their offense is light years ahead of what Montana has had for a very long time. Lots of balance and a trigger man that is the best player on the field.

sigh
And they still lost by two TDs to a triple option team that threw, I believe, one pass all game long. I'll take a team that WINS, no matter how they move the ball down the field.

Considering how badly NDSU throttled Georgia Southern last year, it's shaping up to be another NDSU-SHSU final.

Actually, the games stats credit GSU with 10 passing attempts, with just two completions for 30 yards. Heinicke, for ODU went 31/44 (over 70%) for 422 yards.

GSU ran for over 600 yards and out-gained ODU 632 to 534 in total yards. By the 4th quarter, when GSU out-scored ODU 28-zip, you could see that the ODU defense was totally worn down.

IdaGriz, sorry. I meant to say one completed pass, and you corrected that to two. IMO, there was no question which offense was the superior one in this game.

What is your point, that the ODU QB isn't a good player? I disagree he has "it"

No, my point is that having a big-time passer still doesn't guarantee wins. Not necessarily you, Big G, but some folks on this board are absolutely convinced that, without a big-time passer, the Griz can not win. I don't think that has to be true.

Nope. ODU had the flash on offense, but in the end the GSU O-line pounded the snot out of the ODU defense.

You look at the drive chart for the 4th Q: About 5-6 min into the quarter, GSU had one incompleted pass. The rest of the time, down to about a minute to go, they called 19 running play -- all of which gained yardage. ODU held them to maybe just 2 yards a few times, but 5,10, or even bigger gainers were much more common because the ODU defense simply could not stop the run. A few plays show up with "no gain" after GSU got down to the 1 yard line and was mostly trying to run out the clock ... and even then they ended up scoring (on a run :P ).

Trying to find the Eagles red carpet game. What # is it on direct TV? Anyone? ESPN 3 does not show it?

Go to espn.com, then go to scores and FCS and hit the espn3 button next to the score.

God, I hate Georgia Southern folks. Look like a lot of inbreds, and aren't even friendly at tailgates. Their eyes are too close to their noses. Makes ya wonder.
