FCS - Home of Real D-I Playoffs

Well, the competition for attention heats up this week. At least the GSU-NDSU will be "the only [football] game in town" on Friday -- on ESPN2.

On Saturday, early, the "Gildan New Mexico Bowl" features Nevada vs Arizona -- at least the two teams have actual winning records (7-5), although nothing to shout about.

Later, the EWU-SHSU game (on ESPN-U) must compete with the "Famous Idaho Potato (gag! gag!) Bowl." The 'Tater Bowl, on ESPN, actually has two pretty good (but second-tier) teams: Toledo (9-3) vs Utah State (10-2). Anyone care to bet which game will get higher ratings?

BTW, it's worth pointing out that -- for all our (me included) bitching about the selection process - three of the four teams competing in the semifinals started out with seeds.

Just checked the schedule out, no LDS meeting live from SLC, so this part of Idaho will probably watch the Tater Bowl. SHSU - EWU at my house.

I may dislike the Griz with all of my heart, but I agree with IdaGriz. The FBS bowl system is a joke. I think it reflects a mentality that "everyone should get a prize." Well, no, not everyone should. A 6-6 team shouldn't be in the post season. A strong argument could be made for no 7-5 teams being allowed in the post-season. The field gets so watered down that a victory or a loss is not as meaningful as it would be in the FCS playoff system. And this is all BEFORE we start talking about the inherent shafting that many FBS teams get every year at the hands of the BCS.

Some teams just aren't good. We should leave it at that. PlayerRep logic of "that team ALMOST beat lots of good teams" really does a disservice to the fanbase of the program. Fans should want more than a consolation prize and Tater bowl or whatever the hell it is called.

I'm not sure where this fits in... but if the 4 FCS teams left play those four FBS teams above... we go 4 and 0. I don't even care how you match them up.

No way either of those FCS games have better TV ratings

You are insane. Arizona would HAMMER all 4 of those teams. NDSU you could possibly beat one of the other three teams. EWU would get rolled against all 4 teams. FCS would go 0-4

Man, you act like there are is a higher volume of Griz fans nation-wide than many other FBS fan bases. What gives you that idea? The schools in the FCS are smaller; their fan bases thus are also smaller. The viewing audience is probably smaller too. But just because the Griz think of moving up does not mean that they will automatically increase their fan base. Being stuck out west in a small town surrounded by the Pac 12 on the West and the Big 12/Big 10 on the east doesn't bear well for the Griz to dip into some pretty established fan communities. Sorry, bro.

WTF are you talking about?? FBS programs are superior in almost every way imaginable. I don't think Montana has a bigger fan base than Arizona, Utah State, or Nevada.........because we don't. Again, WTF are you talking about, bruh??

If you look at the record of FCS vs. FBS in the last ten years, we've done nothing
but improve. I take flak from my "Big school" buddies who say, " That's nice but...").
I love the fact that the FCS has a true champion every year. No opinions, its all about
winning or losing a football game not a popularity contest. Just think how much more
interesting the FBS would be if they had an honest to god championship bracket. I could
care less about watching two mediocre teams play in some corporate blow me bowl.

I'd like to see those FCS vs FBS numbers and how much we are "improving"

FBS programs are superior in almost every way imaginable? That's silly! Have you been to Moscow? Been to a game at the Kibbie Dome? Have you been to San Jose State? Wow, what a program. None of them hold a candle to what UM has.

But why ruin a good thing? Move up and wander around with sights set on the Potatoe bowl? WTF are you talking about, brrruuuhh?

So you should go be a fan of an FBS program if you hate it so much down here on "our" level.

Idaho is one of the worst football programs in the United States at any level. San Jose State would beat the living piss out of the Grizzlies and the Bobcats

Because the lower-tier bowls are so prestigious and have such a great viewership on a Tuesday night at 8pm? Or because of the "rewards" given to the players? Or because winning the Meineke Car Care bowl gets you ranked at the end of the season? Sorry, broooo. It doesn't seem more appealing to me than jumping in the Clark Fork river in the middle of January.

This season San Jose State would. But you have a short memory. They usually suck. Lots of people thought that after Idaho's impressive 8-win season they were on the up and up. But they too were mistaken. But, for those who want to be like San Jose State, I say "aim for the bushes."

Really the only bowl game that means much is Bama vs Notre Dame. The rest of the
games are pretty much meaningless because they're all just speculation after the fact.
If you're in a bowl game well, this is it; I hope the media says we ended up ranked
number whatever. Not gonna argue FCS vs FBS because it isn't a fair fight but there
are FBS schools that would love to see the fanbase that the Griz and Cats have.

what this dude said.

As crappy as it is, the Idaho bowl draws around 27,000 people (last year was over 28,000). this year's game will probably outdraw the combined attendance of the 2 FCS semi-final games.

I see you cannot respond after being forced into a corner. You're so smart!
