Yep. That's a definite, "Well, I'll be damned." I feel (you can never be sure) like CC was headed for a top seed ... probably not going to happen now.

Yep. Griz loss looks better....If they don't get seeded and end up on the same side of the bracket it could mean a rematch home game....that would NOT suck.

However, in the past the Griz have been vulnerable to "the big play." Two of the three TDs by CC came on huge plays (71-yard run and an 83-yard pass) and the other included two passes over 20 yards during the drive. The Griz D has gotten better on that, but that would have me worried.

Yea, at 10 degrees no way Coastal can handle that weather. We all know they can only win if it is below zero....

... CC is playing like a team that knows it's going to get an auto-bid (and they are surely right) and really doesn't give that much of a damn. Lib looks like they want to salvage something from a s**t season.

Still think this was true.

However, I just looked over the box score for this game and noticed something very interesting. Turner Gill (Flames coach, and a good one) must have decided his team did not have the horsepower to stay with CC in any kind of conventional, straight-ahead matchup. He devised a game plan to (1) stop the run and (2) keep the ball out of CC's hands. He did pretty damn well on both counts, even though they did give up a couple of big plays (as noted on another post).

But, in the end, Liberty ran 75 plays while CC ran only 51 ... which worked out to nearly 41 minutes in TOP, while CC had about 19 min. (that seems incredible, but that's what the stats show). With their 19 runs, CC gained 103 yards. That sounds pretty good (5.4 yards per rush), until you notice that 71 yards of that came on one (scoring) play. That means the other 18 runs gains a total of 32 yards ... not so good (awful, really). CC was forced to pass, and they actually gained 16 yards more in total offense than Liberty. But they could not run the ball when it mattered, and that was the difference.

I thought the game seemed strange as it played out (and said so on this thread), but could not put my finger on why. Now I at least have a glimmer. Might be a kind of formula for a future opponent.
