FCS Doings (Except MSU vs UI)

Hope Semore will have the defense ready for them when we play in a few weeks.
At times, Nevada seemed to defend the option really well, but they just could not seem to stop it in the 4th quarter. They had a lot of people out for a play or two with injuries during that span, so that might have been a factor. Then they held Poly to that FG in OT.

Cal Poly D had a slow start, but held Nevada scoreless and under 100 yards in the second half. Loved Cal Poly's 18 play 9 minute drive to tie the game with 1:20 left in the 4th. Loved they were going for two and the win (offside forced them to go for 1 and the tie). Cal Poly played with some determination in the second half and came up a little short.

Hell of a ball game! Too bad about the 2-point try ... ball carrier just walked into the end zone.

Now we're left with the usual quandary: Are your guys that good or is Nevada a not-so-good FBS team? Probably a bit of both. (I see Nevada was only marginal last year, but they did go to a bowl game and win.)

Tough break Slo!

I wonder how the Nevada defense compares to last years Gregorak led Griz defense?

After a slow start Cal Poly held a traditionally strong Nevada offense to only 69 yards, 2 first downs and no points in the second half. Cal Poly compiled advantages of 23-18 in first downs, 445-363 in total offense and 36:09 to 23:51 in time of possession. I was disappointed in the loss, but happy with the effort. The return of Payam Sadaat (former DC under Ellerson - when Cal Poly was a top FCS defense that produced three Buchanan winners) is going to pay big dividends this year. They are back to running the 3-4 defense that brings pressure from all over the field. The defense came up big in the second half.

Pretty bleak on the upset front in the early FCS-FBS games, with the exception of Liberty. They converted a turnaround into points, but missed the PAT: V-Tech leads Liberty 7-6 at the end of Q1.

Meanwhile, Fordham and Eastern Kentucky are getting beat up and Howard is getting obliterated (35-0, late in the first half).

Too bad. Liberty hung in for a long time, but a late V-Tech score gave the Hokies (what the Hell is a Hokie?) a 24-13 lead at the half.

At least Villanova is holding its own at Pittsburgh: 0-0 with about 12 min left in Q2.

Pittsburgh finally woke up and put Villanova away 28-7.

However ... Richmond leads Virginia at halftime, 16-7.

UC DAVIS 7 OU 0
The fumble recovery was a good break ... but then their offense punched it in pretty impressively from outside the 30. My guess is, this will just piss off OU and lead to even more of a beat-down. But one can dream.

and in case anyone cares, Idaho State is doing well (14-0) against Simon Frasier.

Hmmm ... Richmond now leads Virginia 23-7 with less than 5 min to go in Q3. Sure wish I could find a stream on that one.

Okay ... I'd call that a "pissed off" play. Oregon scores a TD, and tacks on a 2-point conversion, still in Q1.

Just noticed this one on the ESPN scoreboard: Central Washington leads Portland State, 13-7, about 6 min into Q2. :?

Check that: It's now 19-7 with 5 min left in the half.

I take it Virginia isn't really good richmond is pounding the shit out of them the stats are ridiculous.

Is the former Spiders' head coach still the head ball coach at Virginia?

Edit: NO!
