FCS Championship Game

I have been reading a bit about this matchup. I was surprised to learn that JMU's football budget dwarfs NSDU's. It's about $12 million versus $5.5 million. I knew NDSU has become legendary at getting a the most out of less than elite talent, but I didn't know they had less than half the budget of JMU. That's honestly impressive.

Clearly...as evidenced by the two back to back 70 yard TD’s NDSU had against Montana State. I don’t think Jeff Choate could say the word Bozeman as fast as the Bison scored.

Cool. It will be interesting if the Bizon get down a couple scores. They don't really have a come-from-behind type of offense.
Are you going to make a prediction?

You don’t have a clue what type of offense they have or don’t have.

No I’m not going to make a prediction. The game could go any way.
In that case I'm taking a 1-1 tie. Or did you mean either way?

I don’t think there is a clear favorite as in prior years. Probably a coin toss on who wins.

I think NDSU has more talent but JMU has more experience.

JMU has a $62 M stadium renovation which is included in that budget total.

I disagree. I know from watching games and reading your posts on eGriz that they do not pass the ball a lot. In fact, I believe that was a direct quote from you when you were trying to make an excuse about the QBs less than impressive passing ypg.

If JMU sells out on the run, I think Trey Lance is going to have a field day. I’ve been watching NDSU football my entire life, and I don’t think I’ve seen as many weapons as this year’s team has.

I think the exact opposite. NDSU has a reputation for overachieving with its talent level, but JMU has more speed, and probably the better defense. Should be a great game.

Ha...once again proving to the world that you don’t have a clue what you are talking about.

JMU does not have guys who can run like Kobe Johnson or Christian Watson and their QB certainly isn’t close to as fast as Trey Lance.

JMU’s defense is predicated off of defensive line play. Unfortunately for them, they are going to go up against the best offensive line in the FCS. They are susceptible as evidenced by the Stony Brook game. They do have a great defense though.

It will indeed be a good game. I think it will be similar to 2017.

Meh, I disagree. There's no reason to throw out insults, bro. NDSU is nationally known for getting a lot from less in terms of talent due to its out-of-state OLine. I mean, nobody in his/her right mind is going to pretend Trey Lance is going to blow anyone's hair back if he played for Idaho State. I think even we can agree upon that. JMU definitely has more talent, but NDSU has the clock-eating line.

Meh not sure about that. The guy you have as the Payton front runner only won 4 games this year.

There was a good reason why Trey Lance was the #1 rated prospect from the state of Minnesota his senior year and had a full ride offer to Boise State.

Kid is a stud and by the time he graduates, I think he will have the crown as the best FCS QB of all time. It is really hard to look at his game and find something he isn’t exceptional at as a redshirt freshman.

Totally, he's a good football player. No disputing that. I'm just saying he wouldn't be lighting anyone up behind a typical FCS OLine. Frankly, he doesn't even chuck it all over the yard behind the NDSU line because he doesn't have to. He has managed your games very well this season, but he's no Cookus or Thompson.

This is why I think the game could be interesting if NDSU trails in the second half and has to pass. JMU won't be "selling out" on the run, and the Bizon will be forced to put the ball in the air. They are pretty untested when it comes to doing that, so it could lead to some interesting outcomes. Maybe the kid rises to the challenge, and maybe he doesn't. But it would be more interesting to watch than 21 Dive and 22 Dive.

Well the people who pay closest attention to this don’t agree with your assessment. Trey Lance just won the Payton.

Good football player, and good game manager. Congrats to him. It doesn’t change my assessment. He’s certainly not a prolific passer, but he can run a game. Good on him!

If he doesn’t leave early or a bad injury happens, he will go down as the best FCS QB of all time.

Like I said, he’s the most talented QB I have ever seen at NDSU, and that includes a guy drafted #2.

Could be. We shall see. Time will tell.

CDA good assessment. I think this year we will see an NDSU QB who has to pass.

Their kid looks good but not sure the Beeson are able to rely on a come back operation thru the air

He lead the FCS in passer rating and averaged over 9 yards per attempt.

Regardless bra, the game is changing and his disk threat ability is second to none.

That’s pretty much what I’m getting at. I think the NDSU squad isn’t used to having to pass, as evidenced by the stats. It’s one thing to dump one off on play action after handing off 14 times, but it’s quite another to have to air it out to get back in a game. That’s all I was trying to say.

Like I said, I think the coaches have made him a great game manager. I think he might be able to manage it against JMU, but it will be interesting if he is forced to pass to get back into a game. I also think Lance is not as fast as Usian Bolt and couldn’t beat a Tesla Model S in the 40. Is that fair, or are you unable to even admit that?

Good thing they have the Walter Payton winner, who is extremely accurate with a very strong arm, and Christian Watson. Bad thing is the weather will be an issue, for either team, if they have to air it out to get back into it. Wind is crazy with sleet/snow mixture.

Yeah, I’ve heard rumblings from a few scouts that the arm strength is just OK, and (what a surprise) durability could be an issue. I don’t believe the second part necessarily. I think he’s getting somewhat of a bad rap due to the Bizon QBs of the past, because I don’t see anything that would give me pause on durability.

Cold (for Texas) about 35 and what they call snow in Texas (light dusting) for the game...don't know know if that factors into any advantage for either side?
