It’s really mind blowing how both of these Dakota schools just shot by both of the Montana schools with almost every aspect of the football programs. How did it happen??

Both Missoula and Bozeman are way nicer places than brookings and Fargo. They’re both less remote with better scenery and weather than the Dakota schools. And we had a huge head start both of the dakotas coming from Div2. How did all of this happen??

The Midwest is known for their ability to create big, strong, lineman. Seriously. They have great line play.

FCOA, nice facilities, lots of money, good coaching, GREAT development.

200k people in Sioux Falls and 25k in Brookings

45k in Moorhead and 126k in Fargo

Some of the best hunting, fishing, boating in the lower 48 less than a couple hours from both colleges and just a short road trip to the Twin Cities. Some of the best farm and ranch land in the country too.

Right hard to find good hunting and fishing around western MT

Shows how far we have to go. Starting QB for the Jacks is a sophomore, shows that it can be done.

He's good enough to play anywhere. Plenty of NIL will be calling. We'll see if he stays.

Way too early to count the bizon out.

Amazing what can happen when you find your skill guys with the ball.

Edit: Hauck gave up running way too soon.

Yep! He finds a quarterback that can run for his life

Careful, there are several posters on this board who claim they have never heard of “development.”

Full cost of attendance. So for example, if tuition is $20k a year but the financial aid department of a school determines that the cost to attend is $24k a year, then the FCOA stipend would be $4k.

It’s just another way to pay student athletes that neither Montana university can do, as the BOR won’t let them, and realistically, neither school or boosters probably has the funds for it.

The Bakken boom certainly helped from the financial side.

Doesn’t explain South Dakota tho. And Montana also did well from the Bakken.

Can we just resign from the BOR, or encourage some state congresspersons to initiate a bill allowing for changes? Just asking.

No, what’s HARD to find in Missoula/Montana is FCOA.

Our BOR is the swamp, plain and simple.

It doesn't seem to be hurting MSU's recruiting. We need to stop making excuses for poor player development in some positions. Having your backup qb say he was leaving because of a lack of development is bad look however you want to spin it. There's not a single person that can legitimately say our qb room is in better shape today than it was before Britt left.

After yesterday's game it is very apparent that we have a long way to go to be relevant and our current course of action doesn't look promising.

SDSU's offensive game plan revolved around what they've done in the last few years to improve the team - find and develop offensive linemen. A scant couple of years ago, they were a much more wide-open offense, because like this team, they had quality skill players all over the field. The skill guys, including an outstanding QB - still the most important position on the field, were outstanding. Last season they had an NFL'r in Pierre Strong in the backfield and I have to believe the game in bozemen is a toss up if Gronkowski is playing. The difference in 2022 was a healthy QB, for the balance of the season & the O-Line. It also didn't hurt that they could be effective with multiple offensive identities as needed.

Similarly, same things were true of the defense. They've been more than serviceable on the back seven in recent seasons. And they had a few D-linemen over the years, but in the last couple, they've added depth and a solid rotation. Keeping a lineman from becoming too gassed in-game is important, but the reason you play for championships is that your guys aren't as badly beat up by game twelve or thirteen.

NDSU was also in the uncomfortable position of being the younger team, minus some key starters & stars and depth that decided to move on in-season. They'll be back in the thick of it next season, because they stay true to their plan.

Nuanez is fond of saying you can't beat the bizon, and now the rabs at their own game. Clearly, you're not going to out-physical them. This season, he touted a strategy of explosive plays and lights out defense. Bobby would add specials, and in a normal year, I'd agree. But unless you can hang with the best, meaning the ability to get off blocks, make tackles or block and put your really good skill people in positions to succeed, it's all for naught. Minus devastating injury, the dakotas will continue to rule the roost when all is said and done. And why is that? FCOA. Because no one in their right mind would pick Brookings and Fargo over Missoula or Bozeman.

The Cats are killing recruiting and player development.

I'd say what they're really killing is leveraging the players they've recruited to be really good at what those players' skills allow. Mellott and Chambers & run the dam ball. Leaning on a strategy that focuses heavily on Montana Kids and not on finding the best players wherever they may be is going to continue to have them at a disadvantage against the Dakota schools for as long as the FCS is still viable.
