With all the Stitt, Hauck, championship talk, I did some research. I put in parenthesis how many seasons it took for each coach to win their 1st FCS/1-AA Championship. Interpret this research as you wish. It appears to me, championships can be won within 3 years or sooner. However, sustaining championship runs definitely takes time for a program and coach.
To me, GRIZ NATION has to decide, what do we want to accomplish? Long term multiple champions, or just make a run or 2?
If we want to commit to long term success, I feel it is best to commit to 1 coach (in this case, Stitt), or whoever it might be that replaces him, if that happens. I also feel, it would be best to have a head coach in waiting, within the current staff, if the program is competitive.
The best Championship runs of FCS/1-AA history took 5+ years to build, the exception being Paul Johnson. I am not counting Klieman, being he was already in place with Bohl, and NDSU kept it internal.
I do feel, patience pays off at the FCS/1-AA level. 39 champions (11 multiple championships=28 remaining champions)
