FBS Fail: UMass Football's Misstep

NOBODY SHOULD EVER MOVE UP...and if you're already up then you need to move down...

That statement is about as nonsensical as the arguments already seen here. UMass is nothing more than a straw man to bolster the Flat Earth crowd's lame argument ...nothing more...(BTW, how has the thread progressed this far without a mention of Idaho...oh oh I just did)

I would be curious if you think that Engstrom, even if he did pursue it now, has the support of enough boosters to generate the revenue needed to move up. Even if it was a good idea, which I don't think it is, I don't think the timing is right given where we are after the last three years, do you?

GrizNation has got to look past Engstrom. Dennison was at the helm two decades, but I see a much much shorter tenure for RE, particularly if he can't reverse the enrollment nosedive. His yardstick is MSU's Cruzado who is making him look increasingly like someone who has tumbled to the bottom rung on the Peter Principal scale.

I seriously doubt the opening home game at UM playing a New Mexico or NE Louisiana after "moving up" would draw the anticipation and eagerness and the enthusiastic spirit of opening against App State in their last year of FCS football.
Probably true, but compare instead to the opening days with Ft. Lewis, Western St. and Eastern New Mexico.

No one likes those games, but the stadium is filled at prices higher than most FBS teams charge. No one we schedule is going to make us more money so the extra money for FBS has to come from boosters. Who here thinks Engstrom has the support of our boosters right now? Shit we are down 800 students, and going to lose more this semester. Are you move-up guys Keynesian thinkers?

What exactly IS the cost of a single season ticket at Wa/Griz? I keep hearing that claim thrown about, but nothing ever is presented to back it up.

I hope you are right, but I'm not so sure about our BoR and its decision making.

I believe $230

$460 for two tickets.....add $500 GSA donation for many to get two preferred season tickets. $230 (or $480 wiht GSA) for 6 home games this fall.......$33.33 per seat for non-GSA and $80 for GSA. Mine are 15 yd. line East side row 4. End zone season tickets are less and don't require GSA.

I see MSU is selling $17 "standing room only" seats for their first game. App. State tickets (if they can be found) are at least $50.

Mine were $3,256.00 for four seats and a parking pass.

Both Wazzu and Wyoming offer tickets on a single game basis that average almost a third less than the $33.33 average cost of a Griz football ticket...Unlike UM, the two schools offer group or family packages that can further reduce the cost. I heard today that Colorado has tickets available for $25 each. However much one may love Griz football the fact is the product is waaaay overpriced! But hey, wily old George discovered long ago the school could get away with it...It's called whatever the market will bear

Upper deck middle section tiks are $1,000 a piece, and $1500 a piece inside.

I think the boxes range from about $13,500 to about $18,000, for 8 tiks.

You act as if our non-conference home games ALWAYS start with a game the level of App State.
Well, it does this year and that is the only one that counts.

Yeah, sure. Let's just discount the last 15 years of history regarding cupcake home openers...

Overpriced for Monmouth. Last winning season was '08 in the weak NEC. I wonder what they will charge for Mesa St. Also last winning season in '08 - in DII.

Monmouth is a program on the way up. Following in Albany's footsteps, but not yet up with Albany. Has been adding schollies. Would be in bottom half of Big Sky, but above the doormats.

First Stony Brook, then Albany - and now Monmouth? Given these rising FCS powerhouses in a couple more seasons we won't even remember the loss of Appalachian State and Georgia Southern... :coffee:

... Of course, with what happened to Connecticut with their finances it seems the only Bowl Games worth anything these days is a BCS Game. That way, a school might just make a profit in being FBS. Otherwise?
And you have to be competitive. At the moment (abt 12 min left in the game), UConn is losing to Towson 10-19. And, in case you missed it, Liberty lost by only a TD to Kent State (10-17). Their ambition to go 1-A looks to be on track.
