Fall camp wrap-up: my thoughts

My final camp assessment is that we are still better than the Bobcats. The end and a ton shorter than yours. :)

Yeah, but could they beat an all-star team made up of freshmen from Butte High and Butte Central?

I hear you guys, but much like EWU being mid-season, Weber is even LATER in the season and I expect (much like last year) we'll see an entirely different team by week 4-5 than we'll see in week 1-3. Remember, after struggling to be consistent and score in the red zone it was about midway through the 1st quarter in the Weber game last year when our offense "clicked" and began to blow people out. They scored 45 straight against Weber after spotting them a 3-0 lead, struggled a bit in the trap D-II game against a game Western Oregon, but then absolutely obliterated MSU, Central Arkansas and UNI...
wait a minute. it was like pulling teeth to get you to acknowledge the blowouts earlier this week in another thread. You're like my wife, what's the flavor of the day? :)

People need to wait to make judgements on McKinney untill real games where he can actually keep the ball and run and make people miss. Our rushing game in the zone read has to be damn near unstoppable to win these tougher games at the beggining of the year. And I think it could be with the talent on the Oline, RB's, and Trent running the show.

I agree...but one thing that people forget...and I hate this but........Oregon's version of the spread, which the Griz sorta run, is a run first offense. The last two seasons, they have been #5 and #1 in total yards gained rushing and #4 and #5 in ypg. With a QB that runs better than he throws, if we can just run the offense, the zone read may be damn near unstoppable early on. At least, that's my hope!!!

Is it just me or is everybody confused as to what role "G Money", as he was quickly annointed, will play. Is the real deal or did he just suffer from the coach/injury curse? Wouldn't it be a surprise if he is the sleeper player that NO DEFENSE is gonna key on and turns out to be the standout offensive player that we all hoped he would be?

Are the coaches gonna sneak him into the lineup (pick a position, name any...) and catch some teams asleep on coverage in our early games? Just thinkin' about how he will end his long and unremarkable career as a GRIZ. Thoughts?

Gamboa is injured?

From today's Missoulian:

"Burtnett said Tully made the most improvement since last season, while Hermanson has remained steady, Zach Gratton has come on and Adam DeBruycker is getting there (newcomers Jacob Coogan and Herbert Gamboa have been hurt for much of fall camp)."

Both Coogan and Gamboa are headed to a red shirt, neither showed enough to scratch the 2-deep this fall. Coogan hurt his neck, not sure what Gamboa did.

Au contrare....I was looking for your blowouts (that were in your own mind, remember?) from those dominant air bear teams of the '90's. ;)

b/w,,nice read as always,,,in your opinion, are we under utilizing haynes and saylor??? i remember these recruits to be very specail "gets" because of their size and speed (match up wise),,,may it be, that the coach's will use them for the "big" play guys or long ball from tm???....i would like your sense on this as they get very little, in terms of ink in your write ups.......how do they figure in the big scheme of things?? maybe they were over rated.... go griz!!!!!!

My impression is that Saylor isn't a burner by any means. He has descent speed, but I view him as more of a big possession receiver than burner - he is talented. Haynes, on the other hand, does have very good wheels. Our receivers with great speed are all young - Naccarato, Walcott, Henderson, and Haynes. Kemp, Carver, and Warren have very good speed as well. That leaves the very steady Sam Gratton who catches just about everything, but has pretty average speed. Overall, I think this receiving corp is very fast. I'm hoping we can heave some balls downfield to them.

Ryan Bagley ++; He could easily lead the team in receptions.

Saylor and Haynes are most certainly NOT over-rated, it's just been as the offense has been getting on-page the split-out WRs were the last guys working in and didn't get as many looks. They'll become factors in the season for sure.

Jesus H. You guys are huge sugar coaters. Just keep pretending that all the shit that has gone on, loss of qb's, loss of all the starters, new coaches, NCAA investigation, etc., isn't going to have an impact, and it's going to be business as usual. See you in November.

How many years have we been hearing about a GRIZ down fall? Not bad, if 2010 is your team's worse season, in how many years? GRIZ fans will take that!

I am not sure that would be a REALLY REALLY REALLY "TOUGH" game. Probably not. Damn

Wait. What's all this about lost coaches...an NCAA investigation....lost qb's? I thought things were fine?

All I can say is: if your bobscat team can't beat the Griz THIS year, Bozo might as well disband the football team. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
