Fall camp wrap-up: my thoughts

I am thinking 9-3 or 10-2 record this year.
God I hope not because for those numbers to happen it means we lose in the first round of the playoffs but I think I know where you were going with it.

OOPS! 9-2 or 8-3 regular season. :thumb:

Under estimating is the word. Way back (few weeks) Growler gave a good assessment of our team early on. This good rating is unheard of from growly Growler. That made me look more tightly at what was going on. Many of you do not like him but for all his bluff and blow he points out many problems we might have. He is usually on the dour side and when he seemed to like a few things it made me look at the program a bit different than I had been. I am by nature a critical person and I usually find fault with our teams but do not post such.

Forget Growly for a moment, some things seems completely different this season. This chip on shoulder toughness I have never seen before. Our offense looks (in practice) like sh!t against our defense. No quarter is given by the defense. But our defense is acting mean and nasty and not giving our offense a chance. I am thinking the Dakota defense will have some players for sure but not 11 serious kill on site type of guys. Watch this game coming up and see for yourself and note we have great depth that is unheard of around here. Our corners will play much better than we thought they would. Our offense will have many chances to show what they can do.

Brint points out some flaws and he is right. Our punter needs to hurry. When he hits the ball it ends up high, long and forever. This Boise Id. kid was one of my favorite recruits. We will enjoy him for four years. Our kickers are a work in progress. I gave Lidder the edge, not sure how this will play out. Yes, be ready for some sloppy attempts but we have frosh kicking. Even me and mean old Growler can't kick as well. Patience is the key, many of you want championship type of play out the gate. Ain't going to occur....... we need to be calm and wait for these young men to develop.

Only a few more days till Xmas. And Go da Griz!

I wasn't really impressed with how Trent threw the ball but boy can that kid run. I too think this team could very good this season. It wouldn't surprise me if the Stanford kid emerged he looked dam good to me. Got a bunch of hornets that have been stirred around can't wait to watch em.

Sat in on a cc with Mick D and Rosie today. THEY BOTH CLEARLY stated that TM has seized the moment, has won the chance to start and that it was NOT from a lack of competition from the other QB's in camp. Rosie also stated TM is a strong leader and has a strong presence in the huddle and also that he's become a workhorse in the film room. NOW, i know Growler and some others think coaches lie when they say positives but from what i was hearing, they have a pretty good feeling about Trent.

ALSO, Brint, i'm more scared of the trip to weber than i am SUU at home. The Griz have NOT played well at Weber in a long time.

Weber is the one team that has had more turmoil than we have (although most of it not "legal" related). I don't fear Weber this year.

This. Aren't they picked to finish behind ISU this year by the coaches?

I won't say we can't lose to Weebs, but I'll be pretty shocked to see it.

Apart from ASU, UND is definitely our toughest road game. They never seem to lose at home. That game is scaring me.

UND is later in the season though. EWU scares me early. And obviously ASU. If we can split those two and take care of business at home with USD, NAU and Liberty, we'll be 4-1 and in the catbird seat after the EWU game. :thumb:

Doh! I forgot EWU is away.

You're right, though. UND being later is good news for us. I just see that game as the most obvious trap for our team.

...and I realize "obvious trap" makes no sense, but...

And actually, with EWU being the 5th game, I expect a much different looking team than we're going to see against, say, ASU. MUCH different. :thumb:

People need to wait to make judgements on McKinney untill real games where he can actually keep the ball and run and make people miss. Our rushing game in the zone read has to be damn near unstoppable to win these tougher games at the beggining of the year. And I think it could be with the talent on the Oline, RB's, and Trent running the show.

Thanks Brint.........Iam ready for GRIZ Football :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Although there might be turmoil in Weber, we play them on their home field, where we do not play so well. We have lost the last two times we have visited. Something about playing at Weber...seems like it always rains or something else happens in those games to make us look bad.

Nice to read football stuff for a change. I'm thinking that the coaches are hoping to be 1-0 and are really gearing up for Joe and Co. If things pan out and this team can get out of the box with a good win(not ugly) in front of a very curious home crowd it will be huge. Its very encouraging to here the reports of McKinny and his commitment to Griz Football. I think we are very fortunate to have Tye as our defensive coordinator........he's good. One game at a time and south dakota could be one of the biggest games ever played by a Grizzly team.
Go Griz!!

Any game on the road with Big Sky refs is a toss up. You also have to factor in that these teams gear up for the Griz games so I would fear Weber even with their turmoil.

Agreed - Trent's done almost everything right in fall camp but we've got to see how he stacks up when playing against someone other than our own D who can "tackle" him with a hand touch on the back/shoulder/hip/etc.

I hear you guys, but much like EWU being mid-season, Weber is even LATER in the season and I expect (much like last year) we'll see an entirely different team by week 4-5 than we'll see in week 1-3. Remember, after struggling to be consistent and score in the red zone it was about midway through the 1st quarter in the Weber game last year when our offense "clicked" and began to blow people out. They scored 45 straight against Weber after spotting them a 3-0 lead, struggled a bit in the trap D-II game against a game Western Oregon, but then absolutely obliterated MSU, Central Arkansas and UNI...

Weber is week 10 this year. I do not fear Weber.

The second-string quarterback is always the most popular guy on the field. I can't wait to watch McKinney win over his critics.
