Fall Camp Updates

What kind of coaching staff sets such low standards?

It's like your 17 year old daughter telling you her standards for her next husband are:
1) He's got to work at least 20 hrs. a week.
2) He can only smoke meth up to 3.5 times per week.
3) He isn't currently incarcerated.

And then the dad texts his own boss (whose daughter's husband is a medical doctor) saying that his son-in-law is a loser. I think that pretty much completes the analogy.

Classic efizz, camp thread turns into a pissing match about if um receiver is the greatest to ever catch a football :thumb:

you tools never disappoint

Shouldn’t you worry more about your QBs. Heard they really lit it up in the scrimmage today  Rovig had a QB rating of 38 and your other guy didn’t fare much better.
Here is how Choach described the scrimmage in the newspaper.
“It was good. I felt it was kind of workmanlike. Nobody was going crazy. It wasn’t too high, it wasn’t too low. I thought it was very appropriate in terms of where we’re at. I’ve kind of felt that way about our entire fall camp, really.”
I’ve never heard a more apt description of something being mediocre without actually using the term “mediocre.”
The C.A.T. hype always outpaces the reality on the field but this year it is extreme. Seems Choach is trying to temper expectations per The Plan yet they are already whipped into a frenzy. Some of them seem to think they are a semi-final team and would be playing in Frisco if not for that pesky QB position.

So, what does Choach have against workmen? I guess, in his mind, workmen aren't capable of doing great things? What about workwomen and workthey/theirs? None of those people are worthy of discussion, or is it implied that their work would simply be below that of the workmen? Do better, Choach.

Excuse me but it’s workpeople. You can not automatically assume they are men or women without first asking them if they feel like a man or a woman.

They were hoping someone would complete 50% and be 1:1 ratio touchdowns to interceptions. Bauman met or exceeded everything except TD:Int.
That’s what they were hoping for?!? I had to read this like 5 times; and after each time I had to wipe the drink I spit out on the screen!
You mean to tell us that this was the standard set for the QBs at the scrimmage? 50% and 1:1?!?! And they were happy when one of them could not even meet this low-bar?
BWAHAHA! They are even worse off at the position than I thought.
Hell why even set the bar that low, just to be disappointed? Why not just say, “we were hoping one of them would not pick their nose and eat it...but maybe next year.”

Well considering they had a LB playing QB last year, almost anything short of a kicker is an upgrade.

GD guys. I come here for Griz fall camp updates and I open up page 7 to Bobcat talk.

Check Thread Title. Bobs naming a starting QB(?) is a Fall Camp Update and maybe one of the most entertaining position pillow fights of the fall. On one hand, you had the Rovig kid who isn't good. On the other hand, you had the Bachman kid who isn't good. So . . . that's about it.

I don’t do this often but I will here. POTY nominee.

No disrect to other great defenses and to the NDSU legacy, but per a source, the MSU defense is as good as any defense they have ever seen in the FCS!! You simply can't make this stuff up! ;)

Per source: Bauman will be named starter Monday or sooner. He played above expectations today. He completed a higher percentage and his ypa was better than expected. They were hoping someone would complete 50% and be 1:1 ratio touchdowns to interceptions. Bauman met or exceeded everything except TD:Int. But the coaches were okay with that since one interception went off a receivers face.

Per another source: the MSU defense is as good as any I’ve ever seen in the FCS.

Perhaps the poster has never seen another FCS defense or good defense.

Perhaps the Cat offense is the worst FCS offense ever.
Considering that it was Dennis Erickson that said that, I'm going to consider the cat defense might be pretty good.

Did he say it during an AA meeting? I believe they practice a policy of strict confidentiality.

I suppose it's fair enough to question Dennis Erickson and his ability to evaluate defenses. I have heard way to much hype from over to many times to believe them at face value. I like most here will believe it when I see it.
I re-watched cat/griz the other day and I am even more confident that we should have won that game and will almost certainly win this year. The cat defense was actually out classed most of that game. I cannot believe with the losses they had on that side of the ball that they will be better this year.

But didn't they GAIN a QB on that side of the ball? That should balance out both the loss of a LB on the offensive side and make up for any and all losses on the defense.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s shaping up to be another 2011 game. Super soft cat schedule will produce over confidence in their fan base leading to another mid-3rd quarter Carhartt clad trail of tears and record setting call volume to the Gallstin County Suicide Hotline.

I asked Jim Sweeney about the cats 2019 defense last night via Ouiji Board and he spelled out, “Meh.”

Unfortunately, the cats D is loaded with talent this season. I have no idea what to expect out of Ioane as a coordinator this time around, other than he'll bring a lot of Washington with him. If he'll be any good, I have no idea. But he's got lots of talent to work with, painful as it is to acknowledge.

Okay, where's the talent and where was the talent last year?

You're an expert, so I appreciate you just asking to humor me. Basically their entire secondary, which was fairly talented, is back with added depth. Linebacker play was a weakness last year, they add TA to that group this year and get Kanow back. They return Sterk, all conference player, and add a few Huskies transfers, a couple of which will start, that are total studs. They have talent defensively. They'll run the ball well. Their QB situation is weak, obviously and hopefully bites them in the ass in big games. I'm hoping our much tougher schedule has us better prepared than their extremely weak one by season's end.
