Stitt made some changes in the offense from year one to two, moving the larger slot receiver in enough (at times) to make him almost look & function like a tight end, including having them block on run/pass option plays. My recollection is that Nyguen had about 850 yds rushing in year one, not sure what the rest of the team put up, but that seemed to satisfy his requirements given blocking seemed to be the most important function for the back. The BSC coaches were going to be better against both sides of the ball in year two - because they get paid to do the job as well.
The line struggled with the scheme, and who knows - maybe that gets better, or he rethinks the running game strategy & scheme a bit. Going with what he brought from mines and continuing to assume things will get worked out will only get them beat.
This is a totally unfair assessment and it rules out the things Nguyen did better last year (pass protection & pass catching) plus it assumes a healthy Calhoun through the whole season. So again, unfair, however if you flipped the touches the two had last season based on their per carry and per game averages, here's what it would have done:
Actual 2016: Nguyen 679 yards, 1 TD / Calhoun 555 yards, 9 TDs
Flipped 2016: Nguyen 354 yards, 1 TD / Calhoun 1073 yards, 17 TDs.
If we have a healthy Calhoun and can get a good mix with Favors and Lee then this running game might come around this year, and that would help just about everything on this team, scoring, TOP, passing game, and hopefully relieve some pressure from the defense too.
