extra sports question

Please don't turn this into a move up arguement thread, I just want to know, if or when the time comes for a moveup especially with the possible changes coming the the NCAA levels, how many more sports would we need to add and what would they likely be? I know softball is coming soon...which I heard is entirely paid for by student fees which I have a huge problem with, but what else might be coming down the road. The main reason I ask is that I will go to every football game and really, nothing else unless we get a wrestling program back. I would gladly treck over Rogers for a chance to watch a dual.

I am pretty sure that universities at that level are required to sponsor 7 sports for men and 7 sports for women. And I think there is an exception that allows 6 for men and 8 for women as an option. In addition, at least two of the sports have to available for both men and women -- basketball and track cover that requirement.

UM women's sports:

Basketball
Volleyball
Tennis
Indoor Track
Outdoor Track
Golf
Cross Country
Soccer
Softball on the way

Men's sports:

Football
Basketball
Indoor Track
Outdoor Track
Cross Country
Tennis

I think indoor and outdoor track are considered separate sports, if so, then UM meets the requirement of 6 men's and 8 women's sports. If sports are added in the future, I'd pull for wrestling and baseball, but it's probably not likely.

Amen Dupuyergriz,
I'll split gas with you on the way over. Montana is one of only a few states with no D-1 wrestling program. Time to step up and offer some of these athletes to participate on the big scene and show them what our programs are all about

F### wrestling. We should start a collegiate MMA program. Zuffa would sponsor that shit in a heartbeat.
great idea as well, I would love to see some more fat kids wearing shirts in favor of tapout and other areas of mma hahaha I doubt Montana is going to be the first school to have mma as a recognized college sport. We had wrestling at one point in time and we could easily have it again. Both Northern and Great Falls have been succesful and it would be a good opportunity to be competitive. If we are looking at national championships, I think there are only 6 girls wrestling teams in the nation hahaha
