EXTEND Missoulian

There is an adage that may be relevant: "Keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer". If the Missoulian has become the enemy of many Grizzly Football fans (and even to some degree the UM Athletic Department) then it will be difficult to know what crap they are producing if you don't read it. You could borrow a copy from a neighbor or go to the library but chances are you will read it on their website which at least partly negates the impact of a canceled subscription. I still think that people should keep their subscriptions and hammer the Missoulian mercilessly when they print crap. I know that outsiders who criticism me don't have the same impact as when I am criticized by a friend.

*Edit: That said, cancel if you wish. It is still a lot better than doing nothing.

Side note, who ever said anything about wanting them to go bankrupt? I would think that almost all of us upset with the product would really just like a better paper. I went to school in Bozeman and their paper was awful minus the police report which was always a must read. I like the Tribune a lot, but I know there are a lot of people who do not.

No need to either want or not want them to go bankrupt because they already did.

No one can blame the Missoulian for reporting facts, but you can and should blame them for not reporting facts - which is Flem Glorios problem. I cancelled my subscription about a year ago and don't miss it at all (except I have less fire starter now). Both KECI and KPAX have pretty good online news sites, so there is little need to access the Missoulian in any forum.

:thumb: I had missoulian as my home page, now I can't remember the last time i even visited Missoulian. Good Call, cancel_Cancel_CANCEL!!! :x

Bazinga. Canceling your script to the Missoulian is the same failed logic of cutting your donations to UM. Neither will fix the problem.

Instead, make them report responsibly, and ask them to open their eyes & find something good to print about the football team. Bombard their letters to the editor email inbox. Show up at the office and ask to meet in person with the editor. Show them you are many, and only want fair reporting.

I have contributed to UM annually since 1998 and will continue to do so. I did cancel the Missoulian this week.

An annual print subscription to the Missoulian is $210.96. Cancel your subscription and make a contribution to UM.

Attacking the messenger seems to be the new ethic. Whether it is FOX or the talk radio whackos on the right that spew 24/7, or the droolings of far left flame throwers on the electronic media, it doesn't matter. I guess it never occurs to people to just simply think, research, or reject a story.
The newspaper in Missoula is not the problem. FOX is not the problem, the Huffington Report is not the problem. College educated people should know this...

No, the Missoulian, per se, is not THE problem, but some of its reporters and editors definitely are contributing to it.

I have extended my subscription to the Missoulian. I recognize the fact that a paper is not about one person. I also recognize the fact that the Missoulian supplies jobs to a local economy that is hurting. Revenue dollars help generate business, for local business...thus create more job growth and keeping dollars within the local area.

Kudos to the Missoulian, for its coverage of local high school sports, features, historical news, world news, Montana news, obituaries, consumer advertising, and much much more.

I found it amusing that people quote freedom of speech, yet at the same time we have freedom of the press. Sensationalism has been around for 150 years....and will continue to be. If you dont like an article, the writer then skip over it, or cancel. I've no problem with that, but to be selfish and want something to go out of business affecting the lives of others is bs.

edit: Have to chuckle at the haters out there....for something they seemingly refuse to read, they sure know a lot about what is in the paper.

Great post!

The problem is that supposedly educated and intelligent people , who have utilized capitalism to the max to create a fortune, are too stupid to understand that the loonies on the left want to destroy it.

No one wants the Missoulian to go out of business. Many of us want them to change their reporting methods, hire unbiased reporters and editors, and report the news without advocating.

Good one. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but "unbiased" reporting is very old-fashioned and not practiced by many reporters (or papers) any more.

Supporting a paper that sh*ts on the Griz at every opportunity is idiotic.

Those who think the world only revolves around the Griz are worse.

While I understand the point you're trying to make, I think there is validity to both sides of the discussion.

While I certainly don't believe the world revolves around the Griz, I DO believe the city of Missoula revolves around the University of Montana. Like it or not, UM is the economic engine -- dare I say the ONLY economic engine -- in the region. I agree with you that few want the Missoulian to go away. Yet many of us are frustrated by the biased and anti-UM "reporting" taking place, particularly when it's not a stretch to say that the Missoulian exists in large part because of UM.

We expect the Missoulian to cover a story no matter how negative that story may be to UM. We're simply asking they do so in an unbiased, professional manner. I think many would agree that's not taken place here.

Right, just watch any network "news" program from NBC, CBS, or ABC, and watch them pander to every left-wing segment of our society. They don't report on the news, they foster their liberal agenda.

That's why I always watch only FOX! Because they are "fair and balanced" and "we report, you decide."
And they and all their sychophants are "Great Americans".......self appointed of course.

God Bless America! and don't forget to wear your American Flag lapel pin to signify you as a true patriot!

Wolfman, you're awesome but you need to stick to football related topics. Breaking news about dropdown QB's and bobcat QB injuries and things like that.

Now your support of the Missoulian makes sense. A closet liberal. Closet Cat fan, too? Hmm.

I support freedom of speech in all forms. To cancel a newspaper subscription because a reporter dares to write critical articles on our football program, which DESERVES to be criticized, tells me all I need to know about you. There are problems, and there are solutions. You, my friend, are not part of the solution!
