Lady Griz basically had two players who could shoot. That isn't enough to beat a good experienced and balanced team like the NAU lumberjacks. With their experience they have the consistency that the youthful Lady Griz do not have.
Mandy Morales scored 26 points, and Clossen scored 17 points. Mandy was 6 - 8 from the field, 13 - 14 from the free throw line, and 7 rebounds. Clossen was 7 - 12 from the field, 2 for 2 from the free throw line, and only 2 rebounds.
Those were the only Lady Griz players in double digits. Only 6 Lady Griz players scored.
Edwards, the one senior on the team really counted on for offense, scored only 8 points. Shot only 3 for 11 from the field.
Conway hit one layup, missed two or three uncontested shots under the basket, and was 1 for 8 scoring 4 points.
Lady Griz's other senior, Jody Mcleod, was basically missing out there. Only stat to speak of was 3 rebounds.
Lady Griz shot 38.8% from the field. Rebounding was in favor of NAU 32 - 25.
NAU shot 54.7% from the field, 8 players scoring, only one of those 8 scored less than 5 points. Only 1 player didn't score, and she only played 1 minute.
Lady Griz started out pretty well each half. First half, got on a 9 - 4 lead. Second half, got on a 10 - 0 run. But, NAU never paniced, kept with their game, came back both times and outscored Lady Griz in each half.
I do suspect when the Lady Griz freshman and sophomores become juniors and seniors, this game will always be in the Lady Griz favor. Plus, the Lady Griz in a couple of years could be one of the best to play in dahlberg arena ever. At least, they will have a legitimate shot at it.
