EWU

Our missed free throws were certainly a factor in our loss but that is more an anomaly than anything more. More importantly getting out rebounded by 17 boards (45/28) is more of a concern. To me it’s as simple as boxing out your man. Charles Barkley was one of the best because of his big butt. He was only 6’4” but played much taller.

When you shoot 34 threes you’re almost 100% certain to get out rebounded.

Exactly, and with that many 3’s, you’re not driving to the hoop, drawing fouls and decreasing the 2:1 free throw disparity.

Recruiting hasn't been the issue for this program. Retention is why the Griz are middle of the pack in the Big Sky. If Cam Parker, Kyle Owens, DCH and Beasley were still on the roster instead of playing and doing well somewhere else, this team would be much higher ranked.

One of the weaknesses of this year’s team. Bannan shot 16 so did his part. Over the last two years Martin has only taken 29 shots at the rim (many of those on fast breaks) and has only 42FTA over the same period (some of those on techs). Getting to the basket historically Isn’t a strength of Moody’s game (although he has been pretty impressive this year for a guy known as a shooter). And despite his strong frame, DT is getting to the line just twice a game. Whitney who seemingly lives at the rim draws fouls at a lesser rate than Moody.

Luckily Bannan can almost single handedly get the other team in the bonus or it would be a lot worse.

This is a great point, but sadly retention affects about 95% of college teams. Also, if they stayed you likely wouldn’t have Moody and/or DT. Which means you would still have similar issues/weaknesses to last year.

But think about this . . . DT, Moody, one of Beasley/Parker and one of DCH/Owens. And that my friends . . . is your 2022-2023 Big Sky Champion!

I guess the Eags do have some players. They just completed a road sweep of the Montana teams, downing the kitties in a close-fought game, 70-67.

OK. After reading all of the comments, I still must ask....... what is wrong with this picture? EWU was basically forced to recruit an entire new team. Yet they were able to able to put a team together who was good enough to beat us at home? And they were able to recruit a bunch of tall kids? Looks to me that it comes back to the same thing we have discussed for years, and that is DeCuires inability to recruit tall players.

Lather, rinse and repeat

I have been a big advocate of a total re-set of the football and men's BB programs, plus hiring a new athletic director. DeCuire will never be able to recruit to his dinosaur offensive system. He loses way too many players to have any continuity in our program, and he fills those holes with second-tier players. We more resemble Idaho State and Portland State now rather than Weber State. Get used to continued mediocrity.

What are you looking for in a new coach/roster? Based off your previous comments, you mention that Trav can't recruit height. He brought in 5 players 6'7 and above this recruiting class when you count Bateman. 8 out of the 16 players on the roster are 6'7 or taller.

Addressing your comment that we lose way too many players to the portal, what's our transfer rate compared to the national average...and more importantly, what's the % of minutes we lost from last year to the portal (Beasley/Cam)?

Beasley was handed the keys to the program as a sophomore, not sure what more could have been done to keep him.

What specifics don't you like about the offense? I know everyone thinks it's easy to say f**k it and run a constant fast break, but transition O is the easiest look to take away...just send a couple guys back on the shot & build your D from the paint. We're WAY more balanced this year with outside shooting and post scoring, plus pick & pop with Dischon. My only complaint is Whitney's hesitance to shoot anything outside a layup.

I want someone like Sprinkle. Recruiting tall players who are no good is not the answer. Should be obvious.

Sprinkle’s “tall and good team” lost today and we won

MSU loses to EWU on a last second 3-pointer........ we lose to them by 8. Sprinkle is a better recruiter than DeCuire, and a better game manager. There is a reason Decuire loses so many close games in the last 5 minutes. Fact.

How many other teams will sweep UM and MSU on the road this season? I predict: none.

I'm sure you are probably right. I just don't get how EWU seems to out-recruit us for quality bigs
