EWU?

Last week two Eagles(Penocello and Betinger) transferred to
Central Washington. Wha gives? New coach? Who's left?

who knows and who cares. Bottom line is EWU athletics has ended their golden age and is now on its way down. Burns ran that program into the ground.

EWU also lost at least three freshman recruits from last spring, a 6-10 center and a brother duo 6-1 point guard (who the Griz and Cat's were recruiting) and 6-5 small forward.

The only real loss was the big man. The brothers also left but one would have never seen the floor. The ones who left signed at smaller schools so no real loss there. The coach just announced the new players signed and as pessimistic as I was with the hire he signed some excellent prospects including some outstanding JC's from around the country. We won't be as bad as first thought. Our OOC games are the toughest in the league so our record going into conference won't reflect what we'll do in conference...

I have heard that you also lost 6-4 JC recruit Doran (can not remember his first name) who you signed this spring. I know he was said to be a big get for EWU at the time. I think the Cat's, Griz, and NAU among others, were after him pretty hard, this spring. Do you know if he left or not.

By the way the brother duo who left (Eisingers I think was their last name) went to a JC in Nebraska, so it could be a year or two before you know whether they are players or not. You could see them jump back to the D-1 level as early as next year if they have the talent.

Mslacat, you may be referring to Adris DeLeon who is from New York(played JC ball in Idaho). He decide to stay after several visits from our new coach. He will be fun to watch as he played on one of the best street ball teams in New York where he was a star...

Nope, I looked him up his name is James Doran, and signed this spring. Here is a little blurb, from JucoJunction.com

Sierra College and Head coach John Fusano had a great season at the Rocklin, CA school. Coach Fusano touched base with JucoJunction today on the signings of two of his sophomores.

Doran is Eastern Washington's second juco signing this week.

Matt Johnson, (SO) 6-foot-3, has signed ....................

James Doran, (SO) 6-foot-3 shooting guard, has signed with Eastern Washington University. Doran received interest from Pacific and Sacramento State before deciding on EWU.

"James is one of the best shooters in the country," said Fusano.

Doran averaged 17.8 ppg this past season while shooting 53.2% (74-139) from three-point range. Doran will join College of Southern Idaho point guard Adris DeLeon who signed earlier in the week next year at EWU.

I have heard a rumor he decided not to attend EWU, and he is not listed on the EWU basketball roster.

EWU will be okay next year but we are about a year away from winning the league. I think that Coach Earlywine will be able to get us to that point but he has got to have a solid recruiting class in 08 for this to happen. We picked up two four-year transfers and the one kid, Benny Valentine, will be one of the best guards in the conference in 08. We are really lacking Bigs and that will haunt us this year. Go Eagles!!!

I seem to recall Eagle fans saying they would OWN the BSC with Stuckey. Of course, we all know how that played out. I think you guys will be lucky to finish top 3 in the next two seasons, at best.

I heard that Doran is either at a JC in the Sac Area, or enrolling here in the fall...

I hear Jerome is already asking for a timeout and sending in subs. :tounge:

Probobly...

Fans in Hornetland are scratching their heads because Jenkins is the only returning coach on the bball staff. He's gone through about 10 coaches in the last 3-4 years...

I don't blame any assistant that got another job before Jerome gets fired. Do you?

No, not at all. I agree with you though that this is his last year if he doesn't get back on track. Things were really looking up here about 5 years ago, but the last 3 years have been really disappointing. I honestly think that if he doesn't get to the BSC championship game (or have a regular season victory over a Pac-10/WAC/Big East/Big Ten school), he's out...

Not to say all of my sources are infallible, but I was told Doran decided to walk-on at Pacific once decided to leave EWU. His JC coach is a Pacific alumni.

Looks like you took another academic hit. How many players does Jenkins lose each year to grades? Maybe he is the one who needs to wise up. :twocents:

Angel Alamo, Sac State's starting center, did not qualify academically to play next season, a school spokesman said.

The 6-foot-9 junior averaged 9.9 points and 6.1 rebounds last season for the Hornets, who also announced the signing of 6-7 sophomore forward-center Wandji Aboubakar and 6-4 sophomore guard-forward Yannick Kasongo.

Aboubakar, a native of Cameroon, averaged 4.8 points and 4.2 rebounds last season at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. Kasongo, a Los Angeles native, averaged 7.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists at Porterville (Ca.) College in 2005-06 before redshirting last season.
