EWU/SHSU game thread

I went to the game. I was hoping to see other GRIZ fans representing the conference and FCS football. The game was entertaining. By the way, the atmosphere was not as bad as some here are making it sound. Was it to a WAGRIZ level? NO, but EWU has improved their atmosphere a lot compared to even a few years back. Also their fans treated me well, even in my GRIZ gear.

2 college students made the only 2 negative comments I heard there today, and those comments were not bad or threatening. Each gave me the mandatory "GRIZ Suck" comment. I commented back, "I'm here to watch football, not here for trouble." The one guy's girlfriend commented to me, "Thanks for the support. Don't worry about him, he's an idiot who won't be getting any tonight." I could not help but laugh at her comment and watch his expression. He then said " Sorry Man".

As for the game, both teams missed plenty of opportunities. SHSU QB needs a lot of work on accuracy. SHSU should have scored at minimum another 14 to 21 points. They should be a solid team by the team the season ends. EWU also left points on the board, #1 better be finding his hands sometime soon. Vernon Adams threw plenty of good passes. He will be a nightmare to defend again this season. Fortunately, the EWU defense was really bad too. They are over aggressive on misdirect running plays. They have a lot of work to do against the pass too. Looks like a lot of qb's will have field days against them this season. Then again, as the season progresses, I expect them to get better.

Note to GRIZ coaching staff: Please be prepared to play a lot of Nickel and dime coverage against EWU. I'd much rather see them run the ball and eat up some clock than have our LBs trying to cover their 4 and 5 WR sets. Against them, we may need nickel defense be the primary base defense.

Scary thing is, they were off their game today, yet still put up a lot of points and yards. They play very fast. I'm concerned on how we will defend them. I'm also comfortable knowing our offense can move the ball on them.

Thanks EWU fans for not harassing this GRIZ fan too badly. I enjoyed the game.

Great post . Glad you made it out and enjoyed the game. And thanks for your great comments. I was on the field all game and I caught myself many times just looking up at the crowd and saying, "wow". EWU football has come a long way in the last ten years.

So we agree, it was a total dick move! Sounds like you are working on Step 1, Honesty. Nice work Ranger!
I'm saying it was a dick move with some context attached. Had they not called that timeout, it's doubtful that we continue to run the ball like that.
Yep! Total dick move!

Bullshit!
Keeler got exactly what he deserved by calling that timeout. The EAGS did not run up the score. They simply played to the end with ALL RUNNING plays, and SHSU simply could not stop it. That's just big-boy football.

I'm going to have to agree with ewuranger on this one. Total dick move. Perhaps you'll understand class when your team arrives. Montana wouldn't do that. NDSU wouldn't do that. Hell, Coach ron ash wouldn't even do that. He's a loser but he has class (and great hair1). Have you ever considered treatment, golden eagle?

Agree. What is your take on Visorgate?
It's kinda whatever. No problem with the call at face value, but if there was an issue it seems like they could have made the correction in the previous three quarters. The timing of the call was a little strange, but I don't know if that had anything to do with Keeler or not.

I agree with that.
Why do you think the EWU coaching staff allowed Shoota to wear a tinted visor when they had clear (pun intended) knowledge of the rule, which has been in place for years? Kinda Montana-ish, no?

EDIT: It would also stand to reason that the intentional cheating wouldn't create much of an advantage at kickoff, but was intended to create an advantage when the Cheney sun got low late in the game. So the timing of the call also makes perfect sense. Your thoughts?
Not sure, really. Maybe you should ask Pflugrad. Isn't your program currently under recent NCAA sanctions for cheating?

I'm glad you agree that EWU cheated. Step one, for sure. Further, the difference between a free hotdog at a tailgate versus blatantly violating the long-standing visor rule to try to get an advantage should be apparent to you. If it isn't, you are more EWU than I thought.

Still further, don't even fucking try to act like you douche nozzles aren't giving free hotdogs (and meth) to players at every super crazy EWU tailgate party. WR #1? What's that?

it was mentioned on the pregame show that the Bearkats are 8-0 against Big Sky teams in recent history beating EW on all 3 of their last meetings, SUU, Cal Poly, NAU, MSU and Montana'
Congrats to EW for finally bring Big Sky to their doorstep.............rang their bell and delivered a first class "return to sender" taste of defeat

from being there today #15 Johnson has a cannon of a arm...... over threw several wideopen players and at least 3 could have gone downtown...for 6.
if he gets this under control he will be a big double threat....we know he can run.
VA did it once....and left 6 out there as well.

place was packed.....had to walk a mile.....the parking sucks.

Ewu ran for 300+ and threw for 300+, beat a team who had given the big sky fits the last 3 years by 21, and did it on national tv. If hill catches two of those three first half passes ewu scores 70. On top of that ewu dominated and Kupp played with a sprained ankle the entire game.

Say what you want but things at ewu couldn't be better.

I agree with Ranger as well that Beau's call was a classless dick move. The program must be working for him because he is definitely becoming more objective about the moral bankruptcy of the EWU program. There is no way that Ron Ash pulls that kind of shit.

If anyone had any doubt about what kind of program EWU runs, their last TD should pretty much solidify it. What a bunch of f***[*] punks. I would actually like to see them in the national spotlight more often so more people can learn what many of us already know. You know it's bad when the announcers can't shut up about it.

 Given just how bad the announcers were and how wrong they got most everything they talked about, I wouldn't say this is much of a measure!

Of course you wouldn't.

Come on, where's your sense of humor?

Haha! My bad; I thought you were seriously trying to defend Baldwin's call to not kneel on it. I should have known you weren't that fucking stupid!

Perhaps we are pointing the finger at the wrong people? Given Coach baldwin's significant weight gain over the past year it seems like a cry for help. He is most likely eating out of desperation and anger. And who could blame him? What else does he have to prove to the FBS that he is ready to move up? He has accomplished a great deal with a low-rent community college program in a shit hole, backwater town. Who wouldn't be depressed being stuck there? Winning year after year but the phone call up never seems to come. You can't blame the guy for throwing down another cheese burger or a cold pack a night while watching his youth escape him. There has to be an over-eaters anonymous program in the greater Spokane area. I just hope and pray that he gets the help he needs! This late touchdown is nothing more than bottled up aggression. Get better soon coach!!

Note to all Eags fans arguing that Keeler "deserved" your coach's dick move: two wrongs don't make a right. You're welcome.

Lol. You don't want ewu to run the score up on you? Don't put yourself in a position to let it happen...

Thanks Marc, nice to meet you briefly. Too bad the cell phones crapped out, and halftime sucked for a guest fan that knew nobody there. I will try making more EWU games, when they don't conflict with GRIZ games. I hope to tailgate next time though.

I'm surprised fans are more upset at EWU scoring late than we are at a few too many cheap shots by SHSU. EWU is damn lucky they did not have a major injury from those SHSU cheap shots. Those cheap shots alone would have been enough reason for a coach, and team to run up more points. I honestly don't have a problem with EWU scoring again.

For everybody upset about running up the score, maybe we should all just drop down to the Frontier conference because we definitely don't belong playing with any of the big boys if that's our mentality. You take what the defense gives you and if the defense can't stop you, that's the defense's problem.

We are past that already man. Didn't you see both Griz and Eagle fans agreed it was a dick move. It's on to other topics now.

I'm curious about something... Why is it that Colin Cowherd who went to EWU and was given the key to the city seemed so interested in talking about FBS teams like MIchigan State while the game was going on? Is he no longer a fan of the Eagles? :(
