Eagles win 73-61....ends longest current winning streak in Division I basketball.

Great win for the Eags.

Greater win for the Griz

Yeah, well, NAU will still most likely get to host the tournament, unless they get knocked off a few more times. What it does make more interesting is the race for second. We have a very favorable remaining schedule - we get PSU at home, and both UM and MSU as well. Only road conference games we have remaining are ISU and Weber! Looking pretty good, although it looks like ISU was a little tougher nut to crack than you guys thought, eh?

Where do you get this we stuff. You must have a mouse in your pocket it was stated here last week that ISU was the best conference team to play in missoula so far just not enough class to win games on the road. The biggy for MT will be at EWU but team beats individuals and that is a little far out. What do you think you are going to look like injury wise when you come out of Pocatello.
Meanwhile it is time to shore up the homecourt.

I'm not sure how we'll fare down there in Pocatello, it's always thug central down there - but we did beat ISU by 16 at home, so it is certainly a winnable game for us. Yes, the Eastern-MT game will be huge for both teams.

And yes, team beats individuals - EWU did not play a good game in Missoula, they relied too much on Stuckey, and Montana was able to eek out a 6 point win. But don't expect to see the same style of play in Cheney - we play much tougher at home and several players have scored in double digits the last couple of games. Should be a good one!

Wait till you see Sac. Athletically speaking, they looked way better than NAU, but no composure. I didn't want to believe the ealier smack about NAU being a paper tiger, but I have to admit that might be the case. Still, winning 8 straight in conference is no small achievement. They shot poorly last night, but Eastern's D is improving as well.

As for ISU, because of the bracketbuster, we don't play them until the last game of the season. That's why our remaining schedule is so favorable. PSU at home, then at Weber before the Montana schools come to Reese. We're still a year away, but assuming we hold serve at Reese against PSU, and can get another road win at Weber (always a big "if" with young teams like ours), things will get real interesting down the stretch. BTW, is Weber playing better, or did you guys just have an off night?

Stuckey is getting help now from the other starters (Penoncello scored 18 and 12 this week) and we had a kid throw in a double-double off the bench last night. It probably won't happen, but I don't think finishing 2nd and a first round bye is unrealistic for this team. We'll see.

I'd be interested in seeing Montana Gym Rat's assesment at this point.

Good luck in Bozeman! :thumb:

It's very possible. Sacramento State is just in a funk. They're going to be lucky to get to .500 at this point. They have tons of talent, but I don't think they're very well coached. They're going to have a hard time winning either game on the Montana road trip. I think WSU and ISU are probably the scariest teams in league right now, because they both finally have some confidence.

NAU really caught a bad break this weekend. Their confidence took a ding in Cheney, and now they have WSU playing solid ball and ISU coming off that emotional victory this weekend. Then after that they have to hit the road for the rest of the season. I think at the very best they can hope for 3 losses, but it might be 6.

UM needs to make a statement. This weekend is the time to do it in rivalry week. As of right now, I think that whoever wins the Cat-Griz game in Missoula is probably the favorite to host the tourney.

EWU is going to have to really play some strong ball to end up 2nd. They would probably either have to win out or only lose one more game. If WSU splits their road trip next week, I really would not want to play them. Cravens is by far the best coach in the Big Sky, I am convinced.

I think you might see something like this:

Montana 10-4
N Arizona 10-4
Montana St 9-5
E Washington 8-6
Sacramento 7-7
Weber State 6-8
Idaho State 4-10
Portland St 2-12

If I'm EWU, I've got that MSU game circled because they really need that one for tie-breaker purposes. After playing Montana on Thursday, its going to be big for them not to let down.
